The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) announces the temporary suspension of airport operations at General Santos Airport following the magnitude 7.0 earthquake in Sarangani and the tsunami warning issued by PHIVOLCS.

A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) is in effect from 8:45 AM to 3:00 PM today.

Assessments of air navigation facilities, equipment, and operational capabilities are currently underway to ensure the continued safety and integrity of airport operations.

Passengers are advised to coordinate with their respective airlines for updates on the status of their flights.

The Embassy of Canada extends its deepest sympathy to the residents of Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and nearby provinces in southern Mindanao affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake today, June 8, 2026.

🚨 Breaking Travel Alert: Canada just locked down its border controls for specific regions under the Quarantine Act.

If you are traveling soon, managing visa applications, or have family incoming, here is the unfiltered breakdown:

🚫 Canada has suspended all immigration documents (including already approved visas and eTAs) for residents of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan. Entry is blocked, and new applications are on pause for 90 days starting on May 27.

⏳ Anyone—including Canadian citizens—who has been in those countries within the last 21 days must quarantine for 3 weeks upon arrival. If you don't have a safe isolation spot, the government will provide one.

🏥 Show up with symptoms, and you go straight to a hospital for mandatory medical screening.

🇨🇦 Are you already in Canada? You are fine. These measures do NOT affect foreign nationals currently inside the country.

Why now? In response to the ebola disease outbreak, the government of Canada is locking down health protocols before the massive international summer travel surges and major global events hit the country this year.

⚠️ Regulations are moving fast. Do not head to the airport without verifying your status at travel.gc.ca first.

🇨🇦 Canada is bringing back a border measure travellers have not seen since the COVID-19 era.
 
Starting May 30 at 11:59 p.m. EDT 📅, travellers entering Canada after recent stays in Ebola-affected regions will be required to quarantine for 21 days upon arrival.
 
The measure currently applies to people who have been in:
 
• Democratic Republic of the Congo
• Uganda
• South Sudan
 
within the 21 days before arriving in Canada.
 
The requirement applies to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals who do not have symptoms. Travellers with symptoms will be isolated at a hospital for further assessment.
 
The measure is temporary and may be adjusted as the situation evolves.
