Climbed Kili
We are a group of 7 just finished the 7 day Mechame route reaching the summit on July 30th.

A few suggestions and tips for the people who are planning on climbing the Kilimanjaro:

1. Get your Diamox!!or a travel clinic and get on it. It will help in preventing altitude sickness and assist you getting to the summit.

2. Choose carefully your touring company. If you don't care about the cost and want the best, go with kilimanjaro Treking Guides we are very critical and picky people who are very hard to satisfy and this company exceeded our expectations.

3. Ask for toilet before booking . You will have some privacy and keep it clean.

4. Get a large bladder of 4-6 litres. The diamox will make you drink and p*e a lot. Drinking also helps with altitude sickness.

5. Bring your flag to take pictures with on the summit.

6. Bring Purell wet naps. Your hands are filthy all the time and the gel or liquid Purell do not clean them.

7. On the summit night keep your batteries and phone inside your inner layer not exposed to the cold weather. You don't want to reach the summit finding out that your batteries are drained as well as your phone.

8. Cellular service at Kili is very unreliable. It comes and goes whether you have a local sim or you have a plan from home. So count of not having reception for days.

9. Bring external batteries is very good to have.

10. Bring serious anti nausea and anti diaheria pills. Breathing heavily and drinking will prevent headaches. But you could bring also Tylenol or Advil or Aleve. You also will experience heartburn. So bring some Tums.

11. Bring electrolytes (NU tablets) to put into your bladder every day. Also, bring some energy gels with Caffeine. It helps when you are weak.

12. Alwaly Porters will saying Pole Pole....slowly slowly in Swahili. Take your time and walk slowly. Greater chance to reach the summit if you do it slowly rather then rush it.

13. Asking Evans the best route for you because we Choose a 7 day route. A long route will allow you to acclimatize much better than a shorter route and therefore a better chance to reach the summit.

14 , dont stay at the summit much after you take pictuture just get down because you will get sick and you will have to be carried down with Guide and porters .

My brother and I did the 7-day Machame route with team Evans. Starting from Outlodge post in Arusha, we were picked up by our guides and the rest of the team. After a stop we started the trek around 2pm from the gate. And we had a adventure for 6 days long (we skip the last day ;0) ). Food was excellent and sometimes too much. All the guys help us really with everthing. As we did not like to sit and rest we did some hikes of our own and were Always accompanied by someone of the team. Everyday we were checked if we were still able to go up Kili. We haven't had encountered any issue, besides some stomach setups due to the altitude. And on the submitnight both our guides did splendid work to get us there. We reached the top! And than whole the way down... we did .... we recommended not do it if you love your feet and knees.... Anyway thanks Rezik, Amadeus and the rest of the team for being up with us there. I was quite a journey, but yes I will do it once again that's for sure! I could not have picked a better company for this adventure than kilimanjaro Trekking Guides. From the moment they picked us up from the airport, to the lodge Outpost was very awesome . They really know how to take care of their clients. Throughout the climb, our lead guide, and our wonderful porters (24 of them) made sure that all our requirements were met, and they did this with smiles on their faces! The food was amazingly delicious, and they constantly monitor us to make sure we were acclimating properly to the altitude. Overall, great company with caring folks who wants you to succeed, but at the same time provide safety equipment to ensure your health is not compromised!! We recommend them 1001% . Go with them.
