Mission accomplished,

The Memorial Cross is back, repaired, like new, and for free.

This Memorial Cross was sent to DH&R earlier last month to be repaired. The hanger broke while the owner was wearing it. She will be able to wear it this remembrance day.
The madam is happy, thats all that counts.

Have a nice end of day folks!

I generally prefer to work quietly on things like this. Over the years, I've had the privilege of connecting with people in Ottawa to help arrange medals, bars, and other recognitions for members in situations that wouldn't normally qualify. Thanks entirely to the generosity and understanding of a few good people I've come to know there and fellow medals mounters around Canada.

This particular case was different, and it stayed with me.

A lady reached out and asked, very kindly, if I could help repair a Memorial Cross that had broken while she was wearing it on Remembrance Day. The pin on the back simply gave out, and the cross fell. That cross means everything to her family. It should never be a burden to wear it, and it should certainly never become one to fix it.

I explained that laser or silver welding were technically possible, but I didn't feel comfortable going that route given the cost and the risk of damaging something so irreplaceable. So I reached out directly to the Aide de Camp in Ottawa, someone I've worked with many times and who has always shown excellent care in these matters. I shared photos by email, and within minutes he had a solution.

The cross is now being sent to Ottawa for repair, free of any charges — because a grieving family should never have to face an administrative burden, or a cost, over something that carries this much weight.

I don't usually share these things. This one felt worth telling. 🕊
