On our recent trip to Europe we visited many sites that the World Wars were fought. During this heart touching trip,
I shared with our group the story of The Farmerettes. My mother(Pat's) was a Farmerette.
Last night I attended the We Lend a Hand Film. It tells the story of the young women who stepped up during the war to harvest the fruit and vegetables to feed our troops.
It makes me very proud that my mother was among those young ladies. She is on the right side of the photo which was featured in Harrowsmith Almanac.

What a wonderful way to end our trip.

Our final day in Amsterdam included the Rijksmuseum and Rembrandt’s Night Watch, and a visit to the charming village of Monnickendam. We learned the secrets of the cheese Maker craft, a Dutch tradition with cheese making from milk to cheese and clog making, from a block of wood into a shoe.
We finished with a farewell dinner. What a wonderful trip, filled with laughter, new friendships, beautiful weather and so many unforgettable moments, from delicious food to plenty of adventures, some somber moments at Vimy, Juno Beach and the war cemeteries that gave us time to reflect.
Most of all, it was a wonderful group to travel with, and so many memories were made along the way!

Today we enjoyed the Netherlands from the water with a canal cruise through Amsterdam, such a great way to see the city’s beautiful buildings, bridges and busy waterways.

We also visited Bunschoten-Spakenburg, a charming old fishing town filled with traditional wooden boats, cute shops, restaurants and narrow streets with lots of character.

Today we visited Royal Delft, home of the famous blue-and-white Delft pottery, and learned about the incredible craftsmanship behind each piece.

We also visited the beautiful Peace Palace in The Hague, dedicated to international peace and justice. Outside the Peace Palace we stopped at the World Peace Flame, created from flames brought together from five continents as a symbol of peace and unity. Surrounding it are stones contributed by countries from around the world. The stone with the red represents Canada.

Today we visited Bastogne.
We explored the Mardasson Monument and the fascinating Bastogne War Museum stepping back into the history of the Battle of the Bulge.
The Museum was interactive and so well done. Our guests rated it as excellent.
Then it was off to Rotterdam for some time at DenMarket sampling many food stands.
Dinner tonight was floating on the canal where we celebrated a birthday and the best crème brûlée any one has ever tasted!

Today we explored beautiful Luxembourg City, a mix of history, grand buildings and gorgeous views across the valley.

Our day included a visit to the Luxembourg American Cemetery, where we paid tribute to the soldiers buried there, including General George S. Patton. Seeing the rows of white crosses was very moving.

We also watched a ceremony in the city centre, complete with police escorts and lots of activity.

Today we made our way through Luxembourg with a stop at beautiful Maredsous Abbey. We explored the abbey, checked out the microbrewery and sampled some of the local favourites, b**r, cheese and fresh bread.

A great stop with beautiful surroundings and, of course we had another chance to try some local b**r!

Today in Bruges we sampled all the favourites!

We started with incredible chocolates from Pralinette, created by world-class chocolatier Fangio De Baets, followed by the lightest, most delicious Belgian waffles and, of course, some fabulous Belgian b**r

Our canal cruise was lovely. Bruges is often called the “city of mirror water,” and it’s easy to see why, the historic buildings reflect so beautifully in the canals.

A visit to a Christmas shop inside a 400-year-old building and a restaurant devoted entirely to mashed potatoes with all kinds of toppings.
