Thank you for another year of adventures together!

Enjoy our recent newsletter - linked through this photo (taken during an amazing 2 weeks last July with the Camosun College Adventure Education students completing their post-degree diploma).

Wishing you well through the Holidays and into the New Year. Hope to see you in 2026!

It’s been too long since we’ve shared a newsletter! We want to take this seasonal opportunity to reconnect, provide brief updates, and most importantly, share our gratefulness for time together in Ka:'yu:'k't'h'/Che:k'tles7et'h' (Kyuquot - Checleset) traditional territory.

Happy Halloween from all of us to you! 🎃Have a fun and safe night (and weekend)! 👻🕸️

🧡 Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we pause to honour the Survivors of residential schools, the children who never made it home, and the families and communities who continue to live with this legacy.

This day is not just about remembrance, but about listening, learning, and committing to reconciliation in our daily lives.

We wear orange to say: Every Child Matters.

🌊✨ That’s a wrap on another incredible season with West Coast Expeditions! ✨🌊

From calm sunrise paddles to stormy skies that showed the coast’s wild side, this year has been filled with unforgettable moments — campfires, laughter, wildlife encounters, and countless paddle strokes.

Each season comes alive because of the people who are part of it: the staff who pour their energy into every detail, the guests who bring their curiosity and spirit of adventure, and all those who support this journey in big and small ways. You are what makes it all happen.

As the season closes, we carry forward the memories of ocean tides, towering cedars, and the shared experiences that connect us all to this remarkable coast. 🌿🛶

🌊💙 Grateful for the Journey (So Far) 💙🌊

As summer begins to shift, we just want to say thank you — to everyone who’s joined us on the coast this season, and to those who’ve supported us from near and far.

From shared laughter around the fire to silent moments on the water, each person adds something special to this place we love so much. Your curiosity, care, and openness remind us why we do what we do.

To our guests, guides, local partners, and community — our deepest gratitude.

The season isn’t over yet, but we’re already feeling full.

⚠️ URGENT SHELLFISH SAFETY ALERT – AREA 26.3 (KYUQUOT WATERS) ⚠️

Recent Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) test results from Tiicma Fisheries confirm dangerously high toxin levels in shellfish harvested from several areas in Area 26.3, including:

• Cachalot Inlet & Amai Inlet: 900 μg/100g (down from a record 1,700 μg/100g last week)

• Malksope Inlet: 1,600 μg/100g

• Battle Bay: 1,400 μg/100g

• Chamiss Bay & Walter’s Cove: Above the PSP safety limit

🛑 Reminder: The safe limit for human consumption is 80 μg/100g. These levels are considered extremely toxic and can be lethal.

⚠️ Do NOT consume any shellfish from Kyuquot waters until further notice.
We will continue weekly monitoring in coordination with CFIA and BCSGA, but PSP levels remain a significant threat to human health.

Please share this information widely to protect our community.

Stay safe,
Daniel Rabu

🌊 A Look Into a Day With Us 🌊

From the first paddle strokes of the morning to the last crackle of the evening fire, each day with West Coast Expeditions is filled with moments that connect you to this wild and beautiful coast.

☀️ Morning: Wake to the sound of seabirds and the rhythm of the tide. Fresh coffee, breakfast by the water, and a day of adventure ahead.

🛶 Afternoon: Paddle through sheltered inlets, spot sea otters, seals, and maybe even whales. Our guides share stories of the land, waters, and people who have lived here for generations.

🌲 Evening: Return to camp, share a hearty meal, and watch the sunset paint the horizon. Laughter, learning, and a sense of belonging always carry the night.

✨ Every day is unique, but one thing remains constant: the feeling of being part of something bigger—this coast, this community, this moment.

📍 Join us and experience the magic of the west coast, one paddle at a time.

Important Community Notice: Shellfish Harvest Prohibition – Cachalot Inlet

Our most recent CFIA shellfish sample from Cachalot Inlet (August 9, 2025) has tested extremely high for Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP) toxins at 1700 mcg/100g.
• The previous sample was below 25 mcg/100g.
• The closure level set by CFIA is 80 mcg/100g.
• At 1700 mcg/100g, eating shellfish is hazardous to your health and can be fatal.

⚠️ Do not harvest or consume shellfish from Cachalot Inlet at this time.
Symptoms of PSP poisoning may include:
• Numbness or tingling
• Paralysis or difficulty breathing
• Disorientation and confusion
• In severe cases, death

I have never seen PSP levels this high in our area before. I will be contacting CFIA on Monday to confirm whether the test results are conclusive or if there may have been an error in handling.

In the meantime, please advise all community members, harvesters, and visitors of this prohibition. We will provide updates as soon as new test results are available.

With respect,
Isaak (ƛiic̓ma)

Salt air, quiet paddles, and the rhythm of the tides.

Out here, the days move differently — shaped by the sea, the sky, and whatever shows up around the next point.
