Back to my vacation, and another à la carte! Carnal is the adults only restaurant experience.

The menu concept is fascinating - they take regular dishes like steak and fish but give them upscale twists with really creative presentations. The standout example was their smoked salmon cream cheese on crackers, which they shaped and served like popsicles complete with popsicle sticks. Sounds gimmicky but it was actually very good and surprisingly filling.

Service was excellent and they put on a great show throughout the meal. They even have signature drinks created specifically for the restaurant. The whole experience felt well-orchestrated and special.

After dinner, we explored the area and tried Spy the churro cart along with another food cart I can’t remember. The whole area comes alive from 6-10pm with different vendors. There was a saxophonist performing at the Sweet and Salt sip bar right across from the carts, and he was perfect - talented but at just the right volume so you could still have conversations. Same thing in the restaurant when they weren’t actively performing - the background music was at that sweet spot where it added atmosphere without overwhelming conversation.

Back to my vacation… and the 1st à la carte at Grand SIRENIS Riviera Maya we experienced was Pueblito Lindo!

We had an amazing dinner tonight at the Mexican a la Carte restaurant, which was perfect timing since it was Cinco de Mayo! The meal was phenomenal from start to finish. We started with an appetizer of corn chips served with four different types of salsa - one made with ground pumpkin seeds, one with avocado (though I wish this one was thicker so it stuck better to the chips), one with habanero chilies that was very spicy according to Jeff, and one with corn, chilies and oil. All were really good!!!

For my starter, I had shrimp tacos with chipotle crema that were spicy but absolutely delicious. My main course was short ribs that were probably the best meal I’ve had in a very long time from anywhere. The short ribs were incredibly tender and just fell off the bone, plus it was a massive portion. The mashed potatoes that came with it were perfect - two small dollops that I swear had cheese in them and were just beyond amazing.

Jeff had a chicken tamale-type starter that was amazing, and tacos for his main course which he said were also very good. Definitely a massive thumbs up to this Mexican restaurant.
