Cruise Port 2, Part 1: Skagway, Alaska!

I’m going to break this port into a few pieces since there was so much to cover!

First up was the White Pass Rail portion of our excursion. We were taking the train up and a bus back, so make sure to sit on the left side for the best views!

Seats are 2 by 2, but if you have empty seats in your carriage, you can spread out a bit. Travel tip: do not sit in the very first row because the door open and closes constantly as people are going in and out to the outside viewing platforms so you’ll have less legroom - as well as they store boxes of water up there for people to take throughout the journey, so you have more people coming up. Not to mention the windows that are directly in front of you then get blocked by people standing on the outside viewing platforms so therefore you’re just seeing out the side windows.

There is a stove heater and bathroom in each carriage.

If you are outside on the viewing platforms you can of head the commentary inside, which is a bit sad.

The views are breathtaking and definitely a must so in my opinion.

Cruise Port: Icy Strait Point, Hoonah Alaska!

As I had previously mentioned, Icy Strait Point is the only native owned cruise port in all of Alaska.

It wasn’t really raining when we were there. There was just a really fine mist coming down, but it barely even made any of our clothes wet. We wandered down to the tram and took the green tram over to the main cannery area. We wondered through the old cannery, looking at all the equipment and reading about it, as well as went through the shops that are over there.

I then went down onto the beach and went rock and Seaglass hunting leaving the rest of my family up top to do whatever they wanted.

We watched one of the resident Eagles on its perch for a while and got to see some of the houses right at the old cannery that some employees live in. However, they did have sign signs up that said private residences so people would not go onto their decks, etc., but I saw so many people either ignoring the sign or not reading it and standing on these people’s porches, sitting in their chair, chairs, etc. and it just felt like a massive invasion of privacy to those living there.

Please note nobody in my party was doing the zip line so the video is of some random people as they were coming down. I did like that you could see video feed of what was happening up top so you would know when your party was coming down.

You could hear the zip line on our cruise ship balcony because you’re so close to it and it’s this loud whooshing noise. I’m sure it would be quite the thrill for those that did it!

Let’s dive into the entertainment onboard the celebrity solstice we saw…. Can we say phenomenal?

All 4 of the primary singers in the 3 shows were unbelievable, probably the best I have ever heard and the shows were upbeat, fun and with great music. The aerialists and acrobats blew my mind and added an additional element of wonder.

There was also Jeremy Tan, an illusionist/magician who awed us and showed us how some tricks were done - he was top notch!

We also had the pleasure of watching Alexa Jane and Hayden Smith as separate headliners. Alexa Jayne has some of the best vocals I have ever heard and so much energy. She was a pleasure to watch and I could’ve watched her do multiple more sets. Hayden Smith plays a multitude of different instruments as well as sings, which brought a different flair to his performance and made it even more enjoyable!

Of course there was live music throughout different venues as well as vocalist in the atrium, etc., which were all good but I’m just mainly focusing on the acts that were in the main theater.

So let’s talk about FOOD onboard my Alaskan Cruise. It was superb! We ate breakfast between the dining room and the buffet (depending on what the days plan was) and dinner in the main dining room every night. I’m a firm believer in that you shouldn’t have to spend money to go to the Specialty restaurants to have a great meal - and celebrity proves me right!

Their options, quality, presentation, taste and hot food had us excited for dinner every night. Being an Alaskan cruise there was lots of seafood options - mussels, chowders, grilled fish, fish in sauces, cooked shrimp and yes, even lobster tails on the buffet!

So take look and I don’t mind if you drool 🤤 lol

My Alaska cruise was aboard the stunning Celebrity Solstice, that just underwent a $200+ million dollar refurbishment - and boy is she beautiful!

With fabulous spaces like the parlour (with free electronic darts, skeeball, pool, fooseball and more games than you know what to do with) and the sky lounge (with 180 degree views) - it’s no wonder this ship is special!

We had a balcony cabin and the bathroom felt large, had great storage and the room felt spacious, especially with the slightly larger than normal balcony. I love being out there relaxing, watching for wildlife and seeing sunrises and sunsets!

❓Where is Lisa in Alaska❓

Today’s port is….. Ketchikan! Ketchikan is Alaska’s southernmost major cruise port and is known as the "First City" because it is the first northbound stop along the Inside Passage. Famous for its rich Indigenous Tlingit culture, historic Creek Street, and world-class salmon fishing, it sits inside the massive Tongass National Forest

Accessible by only boat or plane, sheer cliffs, cascading waterfalls, sport fishing and king crab-feasting are on the “to-do” list of many travellers. 🎣🦀

I have a couple spots I want to check out, so stay tuned to see where I went!

❓Where in Alaska is Lisa❓

Today is two fold…. I am in Endicott Arm & Dawes Glacier in the morning and then Juneau in the afternoon!

🗻Endicott Arm is a 30-mile-long glacial fjord located about 50 miles southeast of Juneau, Alaska, inside the Tongass National Forest (the worlds largest temperate rainforest). At its head sits Dawes Glacier, an active 200-to-600-foot-tall and half-mile-wide tidewater glacier famous for bright blue ice and active calving - I for one can’t wait to see it! I have another stunning excursion booked for here also, but you have to wait to hear about it ;)

Juneau is the capital city of Alaska. It sits along the Gastineau Channel in Southeast Alaska. You cannot drive to Juneau because there are no roads connecting it to the rest of the state; you can only reach it by plane or boat.✈🛥

🐻Known for wildlife viewing, life altering fishing trips, exploring glaciers or discovering what the city has to offer, Juneau will amaze and give you a genuine connection to the place and the people who call it home.

❓Where in Alaska is Lisa❓

Today I am in Skagway! Skagway is a historic coastal town at the northern tip of the Inside Passage. Famous as the gateway to the 1898 Klondike Gold Rush, it welcomes over one million cruise passengers annually to experience its preserved boardwalks, mountain backdrops, and vintage narrow-gauge railway (which I am super excited to have an excursion on today - you’ll hear about that more later). 🛤

🐕🚁Dog sledding, gold planning, helicopter flight seeing, hiking the stampeders trail…. There’s so many options of things to see and do that it’s no wonder this port is a favorite among travelers and garners repeat visits! 🥾

❓Where In Alaska is Lisa❓

I am in Icy Point Strait! It is the only private and Native owned cruise ship destination located in Hoonah, Alaska.

Built around a historic 1912 salmon cannery, it features local dining, shopping, cultural exhibits, and outdoor adventures like the world's largest ZipRider, supporting the local and largest Tlingit community.

Traveller Trip: The GREEN gondola is free and acts as transportation between the cruise docks and the adventure center. It stays low to the tree line. The RED gondola is a paid excursion to the summit of Sky Peak/Hoonah Mountain where you access views, nature trails and the Ziprider launch point. 🚡
