2026 Arts on the Avenue banner is up at Frank Jamieson Community Center! This year’s banner was inspired by The Dot, written by Peter H. Reynolds — a beautiful story reminding us that everyone can be an artist, and that even a simple dot can become a work of art.

Working with Tanya Reid from the Ladysmith Resources Centre, we brought the story to life with a Storybook Walk, inviting children and families to explore the story and discover the artist within themselves.

Inspired by the Storybook Walk, artist Elaine Grodaes from the Arts Council of Ladysmith’s Outreach Committee created this year’s banner. Then the magic really began! More than 100 children and adults contributed their own colourful dots, making the banner a true reflection of our community — created by many hands and many imaginations.

It is a wonderful reminder that art has no boundaries. A dot is a beginning, an idea, a moment of creativity — and, most importantly, a work of art.

We are so grateful to everyone who participated and helped make this project such a joyful celebration of creativity and community. A very special thank you to John Surtees for sponsoring this project and helping us bring this vision to life.

We are excited about the future of the arts in Ladysmith and so proud to see our community creating, connecting, and celebrating art together — one dot at a time! Enjoy
