Day 13 – Narrowboat Journey

Today was definitely one of our easier days — just 1 lock and 14.5 km (9 miles) of cruising, although I decided that wasn’t quite enough exercise and walked about 5 km of it!

The day started off rather grey and overcast, but thankfully the skies cleared and it turned into a lovely afternoon.

We pulled alongside in Brewood, found ourselves a mooring spot and headed into the village for a proper British pub lunch — because after 13 days on a narrowboat, we’ve certainly earned a few of those! 🍻

After lunch, we enjoyed a leisurely wander around the wee village before heading back to our floating home, putting our feet up and calling it a day.

Hard to believe, but tomorrow is Day 14 — the final day of our epic narrowboat adventure. 🥹🚤

Day 12 – Narrowboat Journey 🛶

Today’s journey took us another 20 km and 5 locks closer to our final destination.

We woke to a rather chilly 13°C, and by noon the rain had arrived…and apparently decided it was staying for the day! 🌧️

Thankfully, we managed to keep moving and made good progress despite the very British weather.

By early evening, we were more than ready to call it a day, warm up, and stay tucked inside our little floating home.

Some days are made for exploring…and some are made for pasta, wine, and listening to the rain on the roof. 🍝🍷

Not a bad way to end Day 12.

Day 11 – Narrowboat Journey

We started the day with much cooler temperatures than we’ve enjoyed the last couple of days, so there was only one solution — work harder to stay warm!

With one crew member down, I happily took on the challenge of operating the 17 locks along our 9.7 km journey, with Art and Russ switching off and helping along the way.

The first 12 locks came pretty much back-to-back, and we quickly had ourselves running like a well-oiled lock-operating machine.

We were making fantastic time... UNTIL lock #11.

Let’s just say things got a little more interesting.

We eventually arrived in Market Drayton around 2:00 p.m., moored up and made the short walk into town.

While standing admiring one of the lovely old buildings, a local gentleman came outside and struck up a conversation with us. Before we knew it, he had become our very own private tour guide, leading us around town and sharing some of its history. You just never know who you’re going to meet along the way — one of the best parts of travelling!

We wrapped up another memorable day with a cold one — I know, shocking! 🍺 — followed by a lovely traditional British dinner.

Another day of locks, laughs, unexpected adventures and new memories on the Shroppie. ❤️
