I have included a few of the Faces of Morocco. A few words about Morocco….. This country is a sensory overload, from the bustling modern cities to villages which take you back in time. We traveled from the seashore to the mountains and into the desert. The people here are most welcoming and eager to please and sharing mint tea is almost a ritual of welcome.
Family is central to Moroccan life. Respect for elders, hospitality, and strong community ties are highly valued.
We highly recommend a visit to this extraordinary country!
Until next time…… Happy travels!

Our last leg of the journey took us over the high Atlas mountains with a stop at an ancient fortified Kasbah elevation 1300 meters. Now only inhabited by four families. This well preserved fortification and INESCO site is used for small shops and corporatives selling hand made products
After our arrival in Marrakesh we enjoyed a walking tour in the Medina which included a walk through the winding streets and alleys filled with souks(a marketplace consisting of multiple small stalls or shops). At the center is The Jemaa el-Fnaa the main square and the most important part of the medina, including dancers, musicians and snake-charmers, this chaotic plaza is the beating heart of Marrakech

We next visit the 300 year old Kasbah( a traditional North African fortified fortress or citadel) where we learned about the ancient traditions of Kasbah life.
We travelled along the road of 1000 Kasbahs to the town of Ouarzazate. Here we were treated to a tour of Atlas studios, the largest film studio in Africa home to many famous movies. . We too became “stars “ in our own mini movie! Our overnight was spent in a beautiful country Riad… priceless !!

As we leave the Sahara we are privileged to stop and have tea with a nomadic Berber family. A loving family, living in a simple dwelling totally off grid. Another wonderful experience…. We next moved on to the Todra Gorge known as Morocco’s Grand Canyon with its vertical cliffs that reach heights of 1000 ft and beyond that The Dadès Gorge with its winding roads, “monkey finger” rock formations, and red-rock scenery.

On route to Fes, oldest of Morocco’s 4 imperial cities, we stopped in Volubilis which is the largest archaeological site in Morocco .Volubilis is a partly excavated Berber-Roman city in Morocco and the remains are truly impressive. Then on to Fes the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco, best known for its Medina( old city) , a labyrinth of over 9,000 alleys filled with souks, (traditional open air market places) mosques, and traditional workshops.I will let the pictures speak

Our next stop Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco, is a stunning, relaxed town in the Rif Mountains known for its striking blue-washed buildings. Our two night here enable us to have a short hike in the Talassemtane national park to the Akchour Falls.
Fresh orange juice in the cool mist of the falls was a great way enjoy the surroundings before heading back. Chefchaouen’s Spanish Mosque, is the best place to get that stunning view over the city at sunset. A golden finish to our blue town visit !

Our travels next take us up the coast to Morocco’s capital city Rabat, rests along the shores of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. We visited The city’s iconic Hassan Tower, a 12th-century minaret, soars above the ruins of a mosque. Our home here was a Riad, traditional Moroccan house or palace built around an interior courtyard or garden. A dinner together was finished with Moroccan mint tea poured in a traditional Moroccan way. Spectacular!!

Casablanca, situated on the Atlantic Ocean and home to 6 million people is our first stop. We enjoyed a city tour with our guide Ali as we passed through the Arab League Park known as the city’s “green lung” and then through old Medina on our way to see Africa’s largest and the world’s second-tallest mosque The Hassan II. A truly spectacular building built out on to the ocean.
We finished our afternoon with lunch at Rick’s Cafe made famous in the film Casablanca. ‘Here’s looking at you ladies!’
