Friday night question: if you could trade one week of winter for sunshine, where would you go? ☀️

Mexico? The Caribbean? Somewhere you can wake up, grab a coffee, find a spot by the pool or ocean, and realize that the hardest decision you have to make all day is where to have dinner?

This is around the time of year when those winter getaway conversations start turning from “we should really go somewhere” into “okay… when could we actually make this work?”

And sometimes that is all you need to start.

You do not have to know the resort yet. You do not need every detail figured out. A rough destination, a date range, who is travelling, and an idea of what you want the trip to feel like gives us somewhere to begin.

The best vacation for your family is not always the one with the lowest price or the prettiest resort photos.

It is the one that actually fits the people going.

When I am helping a family sort through vacation options, one of the first things I want to understand is how they want the trip to feel.

Some families want full days with lots to see and do, while others want a resort where everyone can slow down and relax. Some need enough activities that the kids and teens can wander off and have fun, while others care most about a great beach, good food, comfortable rooms, evening entertainment, or simply having as few decisions to make as possible once they arrive.

Those details matter because two families can look at the exact same resort or vacation and have completely different opinions about whether it is a good fit.

That is why thoughtful travel planning is about more than finding a good price. It is about figuring out what matters to your family first, and then finding the trip that matches it.

This is usually the time of year when winter getaway conversations start to get a little more real. ☀️

People are starting to think about where they might want to go, what dates could work, what departure city makes the most sense, and what kind of resort would actually fit their family. And honestly, that last part matters.

An all-inclusive can look great in photos, but the right fit depends on more than the beach and the price. I would want to know things like:\
Is the beach swimmable?
Are the pools a good fit for your kids or teens?
Is the food going to work for your family?
Is the resort too quiet, too busy, or just right?
Are the rooms going to fit everyone comfortably?
Is the location a good match for the kind of vacation you actually want?

The cheapest option is not always the best option, and the most expensive one is not automatically the right one either. The goal is to find the resort that fits your people, your budget, your travel style, and the kind of memories you want to come home with.

Disneyland does not always have to be a go-go-go kind of trip. ✨

Sometimes the best moments are the ones where you slow down a little, wander through the parks, grab something fun to drink, take in the atmosphere, and enjoy being exactly where you are.

That is one of the things I loved about this trip. It was not just about rides and schedules and trying to fit everything in. It was also about the little pauses, the views, the laughs, the snacks, the drinks, and those moments where you look around and remember why people keep coming back.

This is also something I think about when helping families plan Disneyland, especially families with older kids, teens, adult kids, or multi-generational groups. The right trip is not always about doing the most. Sometimes it is about building in enough space for everyone to enjoy the parks in their own way.

Disneyland can be magical for little kids, but it can also be so much fun for grown-ups, friends, and families who are in a different season of travel.

While I am back home from Disneyland, my brain (and heart) is still very much in the parks. This trip gave me so many little notes that I know will be helpful for families planning their own Disneyland vacations. Things about rope dropping, Lightning Lane, midday breaks, Halloween time in the parks, Oogie Boogie Bash, where the crowds felt different, what was worth slowing down for, and what I would absolutely do again.

That is one of my favourite parts of being a travel agent who specializes in Disney destinations; I get to experience these things in real life and bring those practical notes back to help other families feel more prepared. Disneyland can be magical, but it can also feel like a lot if you are trying to figure it all out on your own. Which is where I come in. :)

Last day in California, and these are the three Disneyland tips I would bring home from this trip.

Rope drop if you can. Those early park hours can make such a difference, especially for the rides you really care about.

Take the midday break. The California heat is no joke, and stepping away for a bit can help everyone enjoy the evening so much more.

Learn how Lightning Lane works before you are standing in the park trying to figure it out. A little planning ahead can make your day feel smoother and a lot less overwhelming.
