A cleaner shoreline starts with community.

We were proud to join Lunenburg's Mayor Jamie Myra, Councillor Alison Strachan, Councillor Gale Fullerton, town staff, and our good friend Craig Tanner for a shoreline cleanup on Little Duck Island, helping keep our coast healthy and beautiful for wildlife, residents, and visitors alike.

Little Duck Island is only one of the many islands protected and cared for by the Mahone Islands Conservation Association. Keeping these shorelines free of marine debris is an important part of that stewardship, and we are thrilled to be able to help.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated their time and energy to help care for this special place. Together, we're helping ensure these islands remain wild, healthy, and welcoming for generations to come.

What a weekend!

Thank you to everyone who joined the South Shore Shunpike (despite the weather!) and chose to travel with us by water. It was a pleasure helping connect visitors to the artists, studios, and the community that make this event so special.

A heartfelt thank you as well to the talented artists who opened their doors, shared their work, and welcomed so many curious visitors along the way.

We're grateful to have been part of another wonderful celebration of creativity on Nova Scotia's South Shore.

🌈 Today's forecast: wonder.

This rainbow turned an ordinary moment into something worth remembering. Nature's perfect collaboration between light and water.

We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse. Did anyone else spot it?

That face. 🦭

Atlantic grey seals are the largest seal species found in Nova Scotia and one of the coast's most charismatic residents. Their distinctive long, "horse-shaped" noses, thick blubber layer, and powerful bodies make them perfectly adapted for life in the cold North Atlantic:

🦭 They're deep divers. Grey seals can dive to depths of over 300 metres (1,000 feet) and stay underwater for up to 30 minutes.

👀 They see well in low light. Their large eyes help them hunt during dawn, dusk, and in deeper, darker waters.

🥸 Those whiskers are high-tech sensors. Grey seals can detect tiny water movements left behind by swimming fish, helping them track prey even when they can't see it.

🏊 They're surprisingly fast. In the water, grey seals are agile predators capable of bursts of speed when chasing fish.

🎵 They communicate underwater. Researchers have recorded a variety of clicks, growls, and other vocalizations used during social interactions.

Ice may be long gone from Nova Scotia’s coast, but it left its signature behind. 🧊🌊

This smooth groove was carved by glacial ice thousands of years ago, when massive sheets of ice slowly moved across the landscape. As the glacier dragged rocks and sediment beneath it, the stone acted like sandpaper—scraping, polishing, and carving deep striations into the rock below.

The direction of these grooves even helps geologists track which way the glacier was moving.

The power behind these formations was enormous. ❄️🪨
