Northern Lights Lodge - Canadian Fly-In Fishing & Hunting at it's best! - is located above the 56th parallel, 44 air miles SW of Lynn Lake, Manitoba, which is the sport fishing capital of Manitoba, or 500 air miles northwest of Winnipeg. The lodge and outcamp are in the untamed and unparalleled beauty of northern Manitoba. The fresh waters and healthy environment provide a natural habitat for an a

bundance of trophy Lake Trout, Northern, and Walleye. Come and experience catch and release fishing at it’s finest! At the main lodge on Matheson Lake, we are surrounded by over fifty lakes. We are the only lodge on the lake and in our area, accessible by floatplane only. Our main lodge package is the American Plan. We can accommodate 16 people. Our lodge and cabins are nestled in tall pines and birch trees overlooking a beautiful sheltered bay. We have a licensed dining room and lounge to better facilitate our guests. We have a large assortment of tackle available to you. Our cabins each have two bedrooms and a full bath. Our American Plan includes floatplane flight from Lynn Lake, Manitoba to Northern Lights Lodge, clean comfortable cabins with bedding, pillows, towels, boats, motors, gas, life jackets, nets, paddles and the finest home cooked meals and traditional shore lunches. For those wanting to be on their own, we have an outcamp cabin on Plumbtree Lake. It is the only cabin on the lake accessible by floatplane only. The lake is 14 miles long and a half mile wide with depths to 160 feet . There is also one portage lake that has consistently produced trophy Northerns. Plumbtree Lake lays in somewhat hilly country with a lot of high banks, making for beautiful scenery. The cabin features bunks with hotel mattresses, pots, pans, dishes, gas stove, refrigerator and lights, hot and cold running water and an indoor shower. This is a light housekeeping cabin, so you will need to supply your own food, bedding, and towels. This packages includes floatplane flight from Lynn Lake, Manitoba, cabin rental, boats, motors, gas, paddles, and life jackets. We employ a catch, photo, and release rule, thus keeping this fabulous fishing experience alive for generations to come. Our lakes have been designated as high quality management lakes. Of course, you can keep enough of the smaller fish for a delicious fish fry or shore lunch. You will get plenty of fishing time in as we have over twenty hours of daylight in June and July. There is always a chance to spot a moose, bear, caribou, timberwolf or bald eagle, so don’t forget your camera. We are a small lodge dedicated to making your stay with us the best you will ever have. FALL 2017
The rain let up the end of June and pretty much quit by the middle of July. About the middle of August a forest fire started about 20 miles north of the main lodge. Natural Resources in Manitoba has decided not to fight fires that don't threaten a town. The fire burned until we got rain starting September 19, which was the first day we brought moose hunters in. The water level finally went down so we could use our dock at the main lodge. We rebuilt the dock at our Plumbtree Outcamp in 2016 and we thought it would take a hurricane to move it but the high water and ice took it out so we had to rebuild it this year. We also built a firepit and smoker at Plumbtree. We also have a generator, deep freeze, and an LP gas heater. At the main lodge we built a new deck onto one of our cabins. It is three times the size of the old deck. We also repaired and shingled our electrical shed. We then built a 10' x 12' wood storage shed beside the main lodge and have it three fourths full of wood. The garden was great again this year. We harvested 50 lbs of potatoes, 50 lbs of tomatoes, and lots of green beans, peppers, broccoli, rhubarb, cucumbers, cabbages, squash, lettuce, and over a 1000 onions. We had a lot of strong wind this past summer and fall. The poly cover over the garden was pretty much gone by fall. Everything grew until early October as we didn't get a hard frost. We had another great year here!

Spring/Summer 2017
Hi from Northern Lights Lodge. John, Lori, and Koda arrived in Lynn Lake on April 3 and took a helicopter out to the Lodge the morning of April 4. Temperatures were in the high twenties and stayed nice for a few days and then it turned colder. We had plenty of wood and stayed nice and warm. We had a couple of nights that hit -15 and plenty of nights that got below zero. We had a lot of snow and were pretty much confined to the lodge for about three weeks. We can't tell you how beautiful it was up here that time of year. With the water moving so fast past the lodge to the rapids we had a couple acres of open water in front of the lodge. About a week after we arrivied we had some Canadian geese in the bay, along with ducks and an Otter. We had quite the site when we watched an Eagle swoop down and try and pick a duck out of the water. The weather stayed cold all of April and most of May. We had hoped to be able to take the Argo on to the ice and get wood and do some ice fishing, but we had about four feet of snow in March and April and it put so much weight on the ice that the water came through and created over a foot of slush, and we could not get on the lakes. The ice did't go off until May 29 and John got a ride to town from a friend that has a floatplane on Tuesday the 30, which was the first day in about four days that we could fly because of the weather. John drove to The Pas, Manitoba (450 miles) Wednesday morning to get our floatplane and do a lot of shopping for supplies that afternoon. Thursday morning he flew out of The Pas to the lodge and arrived around noon.
With the large snow fall the lakes are really high. As of today, July 16, our docks are all still under water, so we have to beach the plane and boats on shore. We have had a plenty of rain, so no problem with forest fires. The water is about two feet higher than normal, but with that fishing has been as good as we have ever had. The water has stayed cold as the temperatures have been. Our guests are still catching Lake Trout near the surface while trolling for Northerns. The biggest Northern so far was 42 inches caught by Loren of New Ulm, Minnesota. We have had several Lake Trout over 30 inches also. The Walleyes have really been hot and big. We have had several caught in the mid 20 inch range with the biggest coming in at 28 inches.
As usual Lori's cooking at the main lodge was a huge success with everyone putting on an extra pound or two. We have plenty of openings the rest of this summer at the Main Lodge or our Plubtree outcamp. If you can't make it this year now is a good time to book next years trip. We also have two bear hunts left for 2018 and four moose hunts for 2018. You can reach us by phone or email. We are always excited to talk about the fantastic hunting and fishing we have. Hi From Northern Lights Lodge:

​ John, Lori, & Koda took a helicopter into the lodge on Tuesday April 4. See attached photos. We had about three feet of snow when we arrived. Last week we had temps around 45 and we lost about a foot of snow, however it snowed Saturday about a foot. Sunday night it got down to -10, but we are nice and warm in the lodge. The bay in front of the lodge was mostly open until the cold hit, but it is about 1/3 open now. We had eight geese swimming in the open water Wednesday. We will stay here until the ice goes off the end of May, at which time John will get a ride to town and go after our plane. Lori has already started plants for the garden. We think it is just as beautiful here this time of year as it is in the summer. We will experience four seasons before we leave here in October. We have all of our bear hunts and moose hunts sold for this year and have only two bear hunts left for 2018.
