DAY 2 - 𝒞𝒶𝓈𝒸𝒶𝓅𝑒𝒹𝒾𝒶 𝐵𝑜𝑜𝓂𝒾𝓃𝑔 𝒸𝑜

June is Indigenous History Month and for this occasion, we have prepared a series of posts on Gesgapegiag's history!

Did you know that the Cascapedia Booming Co. got incorporated in 1914? From there on out, this company developed infrastructures such as booms so that the wood would float on the bay, and then led to the paper mills in Bathurst. This industry, unfortunately, contributed to polluting our bay and lowered the stocks of salmon. It also deprived us from an access to the estuary. 😢 Fortunately, this had stopped by the 1960s, and we slowly regained access to our beautiful bay.

Lots of people in the community worked in the forestry industry. Today, we'd like to know WHO worked for this company (and others!), logging wood, driving it down the Cascapedia river, etc.

This year we're doing things different: we want you to help us with information we need! ☺️ As you know, our team has been working hard these past years to gather bits of our history through archives, photographs, and oral history. But we're still missing a few pieces!

Today, we'd love to kick this off by asking you about your memories of Duthie Point. Did you and your family fish there? Any local toponomies? Tell us everything!

According to some of our elders, Gesgapegiag used to be there. We want every possible testimony so we can document our occupation there accordingly! 📖
