Please remember when travelling outside of Canada, you still require a negative COVID test to return to Canada. Even if you are doing a quick weekend in the States - test must be done in the States. Government mandate:

Your proof of a valid negative test result is timed from the initial scheduled departure time of your flight to Canada:
• a negative molecular test is valid if taken outside of Canada within 72 hours
o for example, if your flight is scheduled to leave at 11:00 am on Friday, your test must have been taken any time after 10:59 am on Tuesday
o Delayed flights: if your flight is delayed by the airline, your negative COVID-19 molecular test can be used for up to an additional 24 hours (to a maximum of 96 hours) from the scheduled departure time. If the delay causes your test to be more than 96 hours old, you’ll need to be retested.

• starting February 28, 2022: a negative antigen test is valid if taken outside of Canada no more than one day before (air and land crossing)
o for example, if your flight is scheduled to leave at 11:00 am on Friday, your test must have been taken on the Friday or anytime on Thursday
o Delayed flights: if your flight is delayed by the airline, your test can be used for up to an additional 24 hours from the scheduled departure time. If the delay causes the test result to be more than 24 hours past the one day limit, you’ll need to be retested.

Yesterday I did a webinar with the former US Food and Drug Commissioner who now works with Norwegian Cruise Lines. He is optimistic with the "pandemic phase of COVID" is coming to a close. Here are some of his comments during the interview:

Former U.S. Food & Drug Administration Commissioner and cruise industry health consultant Dr. Scott Gottlieb has offered a wave of optimism for the cruise industry and the travel advisors who fill its ships.

In a webinar with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings CEO Frank Del Rio today, Gottlieb said he believes the voracious Omicron variant is already peaking, and the next two to three weeks will likely show a rapid decline in cases.

Gottlieb also made a strong case that the pandemic phase of the COVID-19 virus is nearing an end.

“I think the future is going to look a lot different than the past. This may well be the last major wave of infection,” said Gottlieb, who heads up NCLH’s SailSafe Global Health and Wellness Council.
Gottlieb says the Omicron variant that has raged throughout the world for the past two months, “is peaking right now.” Infections are dropping quickly in places where Omicron hit hard first, including South Africa, the UK and even early-outbreak states in the U.S.

“By February, we’ll be way down the epidemic curve and when we get into the spring I would expect prevalence will be very low,” Gottlieb added.

As Omicron declines, Gottlieb says a combination of “a significant wall of immunity” through vaccination and illness, robust testing and increased access to powerful therapeutics, will very likely see COVID-19 “fade into the background of our daily lives.”

I, myself, certainly hope he is right and that we can get back to a somewhat normal life.....I hope everyone is continuing to be healthy and safe!!

FOR ANYONE THAT MISSED YESTERDAY's ANNOUNCEMENT

U.S. approves Canadians who had mixed doses of COVID-19 vaccines as border crossings resume Nov. 8
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2021. 7:50 PM EDT

On Friday evening, the Centers for Disease Control confirmed it will consider those who have received doses of two different vaccines to be fully vaccinated for purposes of entering the country. Land border crossings for vaccinated non-essential travellers will resume on Nov. 8.

What COVID-19 vaccinations are recognized abroad? A guide for Canadian travellers (exert from CTV News Article)

TRAVELLING TO THE U.S.
While the U.S. land border remains closed to Canadians, you can fly to the U.S. pending proof of a negative molecular or antigen COVID-19 test taken no more than three days before your flight.

There are currently no vaccination requirements in place for Canadian visitors to the U.S. But those with mixed doses could eventually find themselves in a pickle thanks to the country’s stance on mixing and matching

“Only people who have received all recommended doses of an FDA-authorized or WHO-listed COVID-19 vaccine are considered fully vaccinated for the purpose of public health guidance,” a U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) spokesperson told CTVNews.ca in an email.

“COVID-19 vaccines are not interchangeable; the safety and effectiveness of receiving two different COVID-19 vaccines has not been studied.”

Some cruise lines that dock in the U.S. – like Norwegian Cruise Line – have said they will not recognize international passengers who've mixed and matched vaccinations.

Princess Cruise Lines guests who have received a vector vaccine, including AstraZeneca, as their first dose, followed by an mRNA vaccine "will not be considered fully vaccinated." However, the company will allow for passengers who received mixed mRNA vaccine doses, such as Pfizer and Moderna.

Holland America Line and Carnival Cruise Line also currently have similar policies in place.

Keep in mind that proof of vaccination may be required for certain activities within the U.S., including concert venues and sporting events. All 41 Broadway theatres in New York City will require proof of vaccination for all performances through the month of October.

CARIBBEAN DESTINATIONS
Mixed vaccinations won’t be a problem for Canadian travellers heading to popular destinations like Jamaica – which considers anyone with two doses of a World Health Organization (WHO) recognized vaccine to be fully vaccinated – or Cuba and the Dominican Republic, which are not making any distinction between vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers.

But the issue has already caused confusion for those headed to Barbados, which reversed its policy to recognize travellers with mixed doses on July 15.

Trinidad and Tobago’s policy is also limiting for those with mixed vaccines.

“For 2-dose series COVID-19 vaccines, passengers must have received 2 doses of the same vaccine OR the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine followed by the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine,” reads the country’s travel requirements.

“Passengers with any other combination of vaccines would NOT be considered fully vaccinated, at this time.”

EUROPEAN DESTINATIONS
Canadians who have been vaccinated with one or more doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine may run into another issue when travelling to Europe.

While the European Union has approved Vaxzevria, the European-manufactured version of AstraZeneca, it has not authorized COVISHIELD, the Indian-made version of the same vaccine that some 80,000 Canadians have received at least one dose of.

Because of this, countries like Italy, Portugal, Poland and Germany do not recognize COVISHIELD, preventing Canadians who received the vaccine from taking advantage of privileges offered to fully vaccinated travellers, such as being exempt from quarantine.

Luckily, a growing number of European countries have recently accepted the COVIDSHIELD vaccine, including Austria, Spain and France.

The United Kingdom also recognizes COVISHIELD. However, fully vaccinated Canadians travelling to the region still must quarantine no matter what type of vaccine they have, unlike American visitors.

No matter where you plan on travelling, be sure to read the fine print of the travel requirements for the country you plan on visiting, as each country differs in terms of vaccination and testing requirements. Most countries list this information on a government website under coronavirus information and entry requirements.

What vaccines are and aren’t recognized is also likely to change regularly as countries approve new vaccines and more data is collected on the efficacy of mixing and matching vaccines.

Stole this from another travel agent, but worth it!!

Travel is back.... and I mean back with a vengeance. Travel demand is extremely high...crazy high, and we are working as fast as we can to keep up with the demand. But, in the midst of the demand for clients to take a vacation, there are daily issues. So, I need to give you some travel advice.
1) If you don't have your passport or you need to renew your passport and you plan on traveling any time in the near future, take care of it ASAP. Passport processing is taking as much as 18 weeks standard processing and can easily take 12 weeks expedited. This won't get any better for a long time!! AND, if your passport expires within 6 months, many countries still will not allow entry.
2) Plan now for 2022! For every person who has said, "There are probably some great travel deals for right now, huh?' I wish I had a dollar to put in my own vacation fund. I could fly to an an island for a long time! When the demand is this high, there is no need for resorts, hotels, airlines, or tour companies to offer a deal. Pricing is reflecting the fact that demand is outpacing supply for many destinations. ..... You've probably even noticed this if you've simply looked for a place to reserve at a local beach.
3) When you do travel, be patient and flexible! Be prepared for things that are not normal, with staffing shortages, new protocols, LOTS of flight changes and delays, and long lines. People are going and they are going HARD! Even if you booked your vacation a long time ago, TONS of people jumped on the bandwagon with you within the past few months and it shows!
4) Be patient with me, or your travel agent (which btw, you should not be traveling without one, now more than ever). I will help you navigate this craziness, because I promise you, so much is going to come up that you don't know! Again, be patient with me, as I am overwhelmed, too. The influx of demand as well as a thousand new details that must be taken care of before you can even travel. Our job is so much more complicated than ever before..... I love it, but travel is a little bit of a beast right now. 😊
5) Read number 4 again.... Just to make sure it sinks in ….and I love you. ❤️

TORONTO — New poll results from Ipsos suggest that a majority of Canadians support vaccine passports for international travel.

The Ipsos poll surveyed opinions across 28 countries for the World Economic Forum.

78% of Canadians (56% strongly, 21% somewhat) say all travellers entering Canada should be required to have a vaccine passport. That 78% aligns exactly with the global average, says Ipsos, noting the results from the other 27 countries in the survey.

72% of Canadians (35% strongly, 37% somewhat) say vaccine passports would be effective in making travel and large events more safe. That’s also in line with the global average (73%).

Happy New Year Everyone!!

Just to keep you up-to-date on our government protocols for returning back to Canada. Here is a recent article:

Transportation Minister Marc Garneau Clarifies New COVID Travel Rules

Canadians will now have two options when returning to Canada from abroad ; get tested in destination and if there is a lack of facilities available, mandatory quarantine in a government-run facility upon return.

In an interview with CBC News just before 5:00pm ET on New Year’s Eve, Garneau explained the new rules requiring that, effective January 7, 2021, at 12:01 a.m. EST, all air passengers five years of age or older will be required to test negative for COVID-19 before travelling from another country to Canada. This implementation date provides all airlines, both foreign and domestic, adequate time to comply with the new requirements.

The news is sure to cause harsh criticism in the industry, where he added he feels “airlines will understand the measures.

The government will be boosting its surveillance efforts to make sure travellers are following the rules. The penalties for breaking the Quarantine Act can include six months in prison or $750,000 in fines.

Cuba will be opening in September. While Varadero and Havana will remain closed, travelers will be able to still visit the Cayos. Cayo Santa Maria, Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Largo and Cayo Cruz will be open for International tourists only. This means local Cubans (with exception of the workers at the hotel) are currently not permitted to enter the Cayos.

Upon arrival in Cuba, tourists will be required to temperature tests and COVID 19 test. Visitors will await their test results at the hotel (takes approximately 24 hours). If your COVID test returns positive, you will be transferred to small hospital in the area and you will receive treatments.

As borders start to open make sure you know entry requirements. Here is a few requirements for a few popular destinations:

Part of an article from TravelPulse, Canada (July 8/20) - The world is gradually beginning to open back up in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic but many places are requiring visitors, including Americans, to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test in order to experience their destination in lieu of a 14-day quarantine. Here are some of the most notable destinations requiring visitors to present negative COVID-19 tests this summer.

Aruba - Aruba reopened to travelers from the Caribbean, Canada and Europe on July 1 and will begin welcoming visitors from the U.S. on Friday, July 10. Travelers without evidence of a negative COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to arrival will be required to pay for a test upon arrival and be quarantined until their results come back.

Bahamas - The Bahamas reopened its international borders on July 1 but is requiring all arrivals to the to present a negative COVID-19 test that is less than seven days old. Those without proof will have to pay for a test on arrival or quarantine for two weeks.

Bermuda - Bermuda began welcoming back visitors on July 1, requiring arrivals to test negative for coronavirus at least 72 hours in advance of their trip and again upon arrival in order to gain freedom of movement throughout their stay.

French Polynesia - Popular places like Tahiti and Bora Bora will reopen to international tourism from all countries on July 15 but visitors will require either proof of a negative COVID-19 test or an "immunity certificate" proving that they've recovered from a previous infection to explore freely.

Hawaii - Starting August 1, visitors to the Hawaiian Islands will be able to bypass the state's 14-day quarantine order by providing proof of a negative COVID-19 test. The pre-travel testing program will require participants to undergo a PCR (nasal-swab) test prior to arrival.

Jamaica - Jamaica reopened to international travelers last month and requires that visitors undergo COVID-19 testing upon arrival at the airport. Travelers must stay at their hotel or resort for at least 24-48 hours while they await their test results. "If a traveler tests positive for COVID-19 on arrival, the person will be isolated in a public health facility for a minimum period of 14 days, or until they are able to produce two consecutive negative tests in a 48-hour period," said Donovan White, Jamaica's Director of Tourism.

Puerto Rico - Puerto Rico is scheduled to reopen to international travel on July 15 but visiting the island will require a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of arrival. "I want Puerto Ricans living in the US mainland to safely come to our island and visit their family members without fear of spreading this virus or infecting a love one," Gov. Wanda Vazquez Garced said in a statement. "I want tourists and everyone visiting Puerto Rico to feel safe."

Saint Lucia - Beginning Thursday, July 9, Saint Lucia will introduce updated travel protocolsrequiring visitors to obtain a negative COVID-19 test within seven days of travel unless they are traveling from the government's designated travel bubble, which includes the following countries: Antigua, Barbuda, Aruba, Anguilla, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Monsterrat, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Turks and Caicos.

Turks and Caicos - Turks and Caicos will begin welcoming flights from the U.S., Canada and Europe on July 22. In advance, the government is launching TCI Assured, an online portal where international travelers to the Turks and Caicos will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test from their destination of origin a maximum of 72 hours before travel; travel medical insurance including emergency assistance and COVID-19 medical repatriation and completion of an online health questionnaire.
