Well, there's a first time for everything! 9 1/2 years old and Brandy has decided that she too should be able to sleep on the couch!

It is the first time I've ever seen her even try to get on the "dog" couch or any furniture... so I helped her up. It's usually Spotty or Donnamira that have the rights to that couch... I actually held Donnamira back to make sure there wasn't a fight!

But all is well and Brandy is enjoying her nap! She is also day guard so it's not even usual for her to be inside in the daytime! She's a hard worker and she deserves a good rest! โค๏ธ

Sacred Harvest Nursery Greenhouse Update ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒž

What a beautiful day for progress at Sacred Harvest Nursery!

Today, we brought in a load of 2-minus gravel ๐Ÿš› to start leveling the area for our future greenhouse ๐ŸŒฟ. While it didnโ€™t cover as much ground as hoped, Ben worked quickly to spread it outโ€”just one of the joys of building on a hillside! Next up, weโ€™ll bring in a load of A gravel to ensure a solid and level foundation for our Terra 55 greenhouse ๐Ÿ .

In a bit of a shuffle, my little deck will need to be moved to make space for the greenhouse doors ๐Ÿšช. Every step gets us closer, and with a little help, weโ€™ll have this project up and running soon! ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒž

If anyoneโ€™s interested in lending a hand or has greenhouse-building expertise, weโ€™d love the extra support in this beautiful weather. Weโ€™re excited to see Sacred Harvest Nursery take shape! ๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒฟ

This is a "special" family line apparently! I recently posted about Eric putting his head where it didn't belong... well, his mom, Kelly, managed a new way that I've never seen before! How she managed this I am not sure but I did have to use bolt cutters to get her head out!

You can see she is stuck between her ears and her eyebrow bones... insanity!

Anyone who has had livestock, may have, at one time or another, asked God this same question... ???

Why did you make animal heads to be ARROW โžก๏ธ shaped??

Can fit their head in any hole, but can't pull it back out again without doing a lot of damage??

Well... young Eric managed to get himself in a bind...

Why he put his head in there in the first place is unknown to me... but there was an old pig drinker and line that was very heavily fastened, stuck in right next to his head.

I was glad Clayton was home that day! He needed to use a hammer, a wonder bar, a bolt cutters and the reciprocating saw to get his head out.

Clayton said, I hope he learned his lesson! I'm sure the look I gave my son was a puzzled one, that he would think that... ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿคฃ

I told him he needed to now block the hole but he didn't...

Next chore time... guess who did what again!?

At least the hole is a bit bigger without the pig ๐Ÿ– line there. We'll need a better solution before he grows any much more... otherwise we'll have to be cutting up the 4 inch planks that the pen is made up of!

I think it's also a genetic problem... Kelly also sticks her head where it doesn't belong and also can't get it out!

Had more great guests the last couple weekends! โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜† The folks that left yesterday included two, friendly and knowledgeable young people, who I really enjoyed spending chore times with!

Hi, this is Clayton, Phyllis Jones had the kind idea to start a GiveSendGo for our dog Spottyโ€™s vet bills, but she wasnโ€™t sure how to set it up on the computer. So I gave her a hand, and weโ€™ve got it all set up now! If youโ€™d like to support Spottyโ€™s recovery or help us spread the word, hereโ€™s the link:

My brilliant boy was hard at it again! This time it was pizza from scratch with homegrown ingredients!

First he made the pizza sauce with our own tomatoes.

Then the crust he made with spelt homegrown by my sister in Ontario.

We grew the chicken, bacon and onions for the toppings. (Haven't figured out how to grow pineapple yet so that was store bought!)

He had homemade cheese but it was frozen so he did opt for the store bought mozzarella... you should have seen the look on his face when I suggested he quickly make mozzarella with the extra raw milk in the fridge! Perhaps I was asking too much!??

The pizza was SO good!

He can't stop eating it!

He's eaten one entire pizza and keeps coming back for more!

The picture of him is me catching him getting yet another piece!!

Clayton made a wonderful garden soup tonight! Homegrown chicken, fresh potatoes ๐Ÿฅ” and carrots ๐Ÿฅ• in our homemade chicken stock! Delicious!!

Yesterday he dragged his feet on getting started with the carrots ๐Ÿฅ• until after supper... then he wanted my help! So, I sat in the darkness at the picnic table, sorting through the mountains of greens to chop the tops and bottoms off of the huge pile!

While I chopped, he washed, blanched and processed 18 large freezer bags full!

He kept a lot more for tonight's supper so I figured it a good time to pull up the potatoes! ๐Ÿฅ”

I am so blessed to have raised such a self-sufficient and industrious young man! ๐Ÿ™

Well, I finally got the courage to start up the microgreens again!

My first batch of sunflowers and pea shoots turned out really well... just the small seeds didn't.

I had made an error in the amount of seeds I was using... 4x the amount I was supposed to!

I also didn't realize that the microgreens have an abundance of white root hairs... so couple that with 4x the amount of seeds, no wonder I thought that each tray was moldy by day 3 and threw them all away! I didn't even feed them to the animals because I thought it was moldy!

So with the 5 dumped trays, I wasted 20 trays worth of seeds! It was an expensive lesson but I think I've got it sorted out now.

These are my first try at using the right amount of seeds and they seem to be successful! The broccoli is a bit of a slow starter but I don't actually know they are supposed to look like or taste like so that's why I'm doing these trial runs before taking on the business!

Any of my neighbours that wish to taste test this batch, please let me know as they will be ready soon. It's day 8 already!

This time we have spicy radishes, broccoli, and a mix of broccoli raab, crimson clover ๐Ÿ€ kohlrabi!

Finally caught up with the 5-star reviews now!

Had a hard frost last night so I continued with the garden Harvest today... some peas, peppers, patty pan squash, zucchini, found some old ๐Ÿฅ’ cucumbers, leeks and more tomatoes.

Even though covered with a tarp, my bean tops froze last night... so I carefully cut off the frozen pieces and covered with several sheets and blankets tonight. I didn't get all the tomatoes in but enough at this point! I saved the blankets and towels to double cover the peppers, cucumbers, potatoes and beans...

Although the Chem trails are not nice, God lit them up quite beautifully tonight.

๐ŸŒฟSome of the harvest from the past couple days! With the changing of the weather suddenly, I'm having to cover quite a bit of it so slowly getting the produce harvested!

๐ŸชดI'm going to have to be moving the garden soon... yes... moving all the new beds... just found out so I need to harvest faster!

A bountiful harvest from the last couple days... I'm working away at getting the produce out of the garden but there is so much left still!

We've had to cover the garden the past few nights so trying to harvest more quickly with the sudden changing of seasons!

Just figured out yesterday, thanks to a friend pointing out the error of my ways... that my new greenhouse was going to be facing the wrong direction!

So... what it means for me is that all my new garden beds have to go! The only perennials I was concerned about losing was my Polish wild strawberries that I started from seed and are still producing berries now...

Luckily, Clayton recently made me an asparagus bed and there is just enough room to house all the strawberries in there! Whew! I will have to move them tomorrow though...

Spotty is doing so much better now!

This past weekend, I felt quite gut-punched as I realized the cost of Spotty's pyometra surgery equaled the entire amount I earned from my Airbnb this summer. It was my first real income in six years since my accident, and just like that, it was gone overnight.

On a positive note, I want to give a huge shoutout to Stewiacke River Veterinary Clinic. Not only did they not charge me for the appointment when they referred us to the emergency clinic, but they also called today to let me know there'd be no charge for removing Spotty's stitches. Their kindness is truly wonderful.

Despite everything, I'm deeply appreciative of your support, which has been a huge comfort during this time. Thank you all for being there for us. โค๏ธ

I have already picked Spotty up this morning! They were surprised how quickly she recovered! Thank you all so very much for the prayers and positive thoughts! It worked!!

Last night when they gave me the options with the estimate of $5500-$7500 for the emergency pyometria surgery or euthanasia...

What could I do? I could never give up on Spotty... especially after all that we've been through together!

I did have them skip the $500 xrays as the ultrasound was very clear... and I got them to give me the scripts to give the pharmacy and pay $30 instead of $500! For the take home meds! Also because she didn't need to stay the 24 to 48 hours got to shave off some there.. although $4K is still a lot it's way better than $7500!!

We are going home where she belongs! โœจ๏ธ
