Served in the Army, Police or a government job? Watch this before you apply to Canada.
If you’ve worked in the Indian Army, the Punjab Police or any government office, your service history can affect your Canadian immigration file. Under section 35 of IRPA, a person can be found inadmissible to Canada on human or international rights grounds. This can happen because of where and when they served, even if they did nothing wrong personally.
In this video, Harkirat Singh (RCIC-IRB) explains:
✅ A real case: a client who served in the Indian Army had his refugee claim found ineligible to be referred to the RPD because of section 35
✅ Who may be affected: Punjab Police during certain periods, army special units, and postings in places and times where violations took place
✅ How it can affect your refugee claim, your PR application and even your visitor visa
✅ The service details you need to know before you apply: posting dates and locations, unit, rank, duties, your commanding officer and how many people you supervised
✅ Why even a positive PRRA may not lead to PR
⚠️ This can close the door to Canada for life, so get a proper assessment before you file anything.
