What most people don't know about the Polynesian islands is that you can have a immersive experience by staying at a local pension (pronounced pone-see-owns)

A pension is a local guesthouse, bungalow or Villa. They usually tend to be secluded and can have up to 15 rooms in a villa.

We think one of the best reasons to stay at a pension is that the owners of these properties love to share insider hidden gems of the location.. can you say Private pearl diving lessons!!🙋‍♀️🙋‍♀️

We're continuing our series on the lessor known French Polynesian Islands. Today we're sharing images from Tahaa (pronounced Tah-ah-ah) .

This small island along with it's much larger sister island Raiatea, are only a 30-40 minute boat ride from Bora Bora but your experience will be very different than that main island.

With roughly 1500 inhabitants you wont find major tourist attractions , what you will find is a few small villages tucked into the bay and local residents ready to welcome you to their slice of paradise. While there you can set up a private lunch on an atoll and after lunch go swimming in the turquoise waters , just remember to relax and enjoy the view for at least an hour
