I’m back this week with some more hits from my Mississauga Food Tour courtesy of my man Aashim .eat.repeat and maybe…just maybe the best falafel I’ve ever eaten for this week’s .

I’ll get straight to it, if this wasn’t the best falafel I’ve had, it's definitely the most unique because inside of the falafel from is a pocket of sumac onion. On top of the added flavour from that magic you get from the marriage of onion and sumac, it also ensures a beautiful moist interior to this perfectly cooked falafel.

In fact, that falafel is the perfect representation of everything I tried at Falafel Plus; something that I love and have eaten countless times before but just done perfectly and taken to another level.

Their Pita, baked fresh to order, was still warm and incredibly soft with the tiniest hint of sweetness. Incredible. The hummus was the perfect smooth but not too smooth consistency and served with a pool of olive oil, chickpeas and sprinkled with herbs (plus more sumac!).

They nail the details on everything here and if Falafel Plus was transported to Lawrence Ave in Scarborough it would immediately give anyone on that stretch a run for their money.
And anyone from Scarborough knows that is VERY high praise!

This place is so good it’s worth a stand alone trip to Mississauga just for their food!

I think by now it’s an almost indisputable fact that the best food in the city is found tucked away in Scarborough strip malls.  If you’re not a believer yet, here’s even more proof for this week’s !

Deep in a plaza, not visible from the street and located under the sign of the neighbouring Caribbean bar, is even more tucked away than most.  They’ve built a solid following through online orders and pop-ups over the last couple years and now have a storefront opened in the last year.

Now for the important details; they serve fresh Ensaymadas, a popular Filipino sweet brioche bread usually topped with sugar and cheese.  What makes their version stand out is the addition of souped-up toppings that turn these into Ensaymada-Cupcake hybrids.

Ube, Mango, and Red Velvet were in my mixed box and I really enjoyed them all but I think my favourite would have to be the cheese version.  It features butter cream piled high with shredded gouda cheese for a classic sweet and savoury mix.

The brioche buns themselves are light and sweet and would be fantastic on their own even before the various icings and toppings are added.

Seek them out at their home near Kennedy and Ellesmere.  If you have your heart set on a particular flavour (they also have pandan, matcha, cinnamon bun and cookie crumble plus monthly flavours) put an order in ahead of time.  Also make sure to check the hours before you visit as they are only open Wednesday, Friday and Weekend afternoons.

Back for another Mississauga edition of !

This time it's a tribute to and their top notch Nabulsi Kunafa, one of my all time favourite desserts.

It combines crispy shredded pastry soaked with sweet syrup, layered with salty, extremely stretchy Nabulsi cheese and then topped with crushed pistachios. It really is an incredible combo.

Burger Maker does a fantastic version and gets huge points for making every order fresh. It really makes a huge difference for this dish. Definitely one of the best versions in the city.

We're checking out some Maharashtrian food in Mississauga for this week's !

Imli foods is tucked away in a neighbourhood of mostly offices and factories but this gem is well worth seeking out.

If you're unfamiliar, like I was before visiting Imli, Maharashtra is a state in Western India and home to Mumbai. They offer a number of unique items that you won't find in the spots specializing in Northern or Southern Indian foods that are more common around the city.

Pictured here are the Sabudana Wade, a deep fried fritter made of potato, peanuts, chilies, ginger and other spices. The star ingredient that really surprised me was the tapioca pearls!

These were absolutely incredible when eaten fresh out of the kitchen. The bold flavours combined with the texture that was both crispy and melt in your mouth soft, was a lot to take in. I think it actually broke my brain for a second. 🤣

It had been a while since I had eaten something so unique and incomparable. An instant favourite.

Imli has a large menu with lots to try plus lots of pantry and fridge items to take home too.

We're back at trying all of their empanadas for this week's !

, in Markham just south of Costco, serves up amazing Colombian dishes and has become one of my favourite spots in the area.

This time I decided to sample all six of their savoury empanadas (they also do a sweet one with cheese, plantain, guava and dulce de leche that I'll have to try another day).

All six were fantastic but my top 3 were...

🌶️La Texana: stewed beef, potatoes, hogao and jalapeno.

🦀La Pacifica: The empanada is made with coconut and filled with shrimp, crab, potatoes and hogao.

🌿La Verde: The empanada is made with cilantro & spinach and filled with stewed beef, potatoes and hogao.

*If you're unfamiliar with hogao it is a sauce or condiment made with tomatoes, onion, garlic, cilantro and a variety of other herbs and spices.

🌿All of their empanadas can also be made vegetarian by request too!

The fresh salsa that accompanies your empanadas is amazing and they always give me instructions on the proper way to use it!😂
"You bite the empanada and then scoop a little salsa in...no dipping!"

Words to live by!

We're checking out a solid lunch spot serving up delicious food and large portions on this week's !

Palma's Continental Cuisine is tucked away on Midwest Road in a mostly industrial pocket of Scarborough just a few steps away from the Ellesmere RT station.

They're a popular lunch destination for the workers in the nearby offices, factories and auto shops. Palma's serves a rotating variety of Filipino dishes paired with rice or pancit (noodles).

I went with the BBQ Pork and another pork dish, that I didn't catch the name of, covered in a slightly spicy gravy. The pancit was a mix of vermicelli like noodles as well as some thicker ones with cabbage and some other veg mixed in.

You can try two dishes with rice or noodles for about $12 and the portions are massive. I easily got two meals out of it.

A solid spot for a hearty lunch if you're in the area or can make a quick hop off stop while traveling by on the RT!

If you're somehow still hungry after your lunch you can also hit up Montmartre Bakery at the other end of Midwest Road for a danish or their fanous strudel.

It's a perfect lunch slice for this week's !

on Old Kingston (aka Scarborough's Golden Triangle of Pizza, with Fratelli & Lamanna's just down the street) recently started offering lunch time slices Wednesday - Friday(11:30 - 1:30 or when they sell out). It's the perfect chance to try their amazing pizza if you can't commit to a whole pie!

The pizza selection changes daily but today the Calabrian Chilli and Spinach slice had my heart. The crust is thin and light with a solid chew and just the right crispness. The toppings are generous and the chillies on this one added the perfect amount of heat and flavour.

Whole pizzas have to be ordered ahead on their website and the menu changes weekly, although there are some constants week to week like the fantastic pepperoni, basil & hot honey.

It's snack time for this week's !

What could be better than house made Labneh spread over warm fresh Somun and drizzled with luxurious olive oil?

I can't think of much!

offers house made balls of Labneh (a yogurt cheese perfect for spreading) preserved in extra virgin olive oil with black cumin seeds. Paired with their Somun (wood fired bread) fresh out of the oven it's a pretty unbeatable snack.

If you're in the VP and Kingston Road area it's a must visit spot for one of their sandwiches, but don't overlook a jar of their Labneh to take home for later!

We're visiting an old favourite with a new look for this week's !

I stopped in the newly expanded and renovated Pomarosa]
for their Arepa Pabellón. A recreation of the national dish of Venezuela in Arepa form!

Pulled beef, sweet plantain, black beans, cotija, queso blanco, queso fresco and guasacaca (an avocado salsa) are piled into a freshly made Arepa. Absolutely outstanding mix of flavours and textures. I'm a sucker for plantain and their sweetness here really tied everything together so well.

🌱 They also offer a vegan version minus the beef and cheeses with added beans, plantain and avocado!

Pomarosa] was a staple on our East Danforth Food Tour. They're known for their fantastic coffee and juice bar options, 's ever expanding and evolving menu of Venezuelan, Colombian and Latin American food favourites and for their beautiful space designed by Chef Luis' Wife & partner Vivian.

Now they have expanded that beautiful space to add a dining area, larger kitchen and even a freezer wall with goodies to take home.

It's a definite must visit whenever you're in the East Danforth area!

We’re eating some amazing, affordable, warm you up on a cold winter day comfort food on this week’s !

Check out this Pav Bhaji from , on Markham just north of Ellesmere.  I can’t think of many better options for a low cost lunch on a snowy February day.  Spicy, mashed, stewed vegetables (Bhaji) served with warm, pan toasted, buttery rolls (Pav).

Panchvati’s new location on Markham Road is a gem and a go to for ingredients for Indian and South Asian cooking.  Oddly enough the old location is still open just around the corner on Ellesmere but I’m told will be closing soon (the Instagram locater still leads you to the old location).

Their food counter is a great spot to stop in for a meal or just a snack.  They’ve got all the hits; Samosa Chaat, Vadapav, Panipuri (a personal fav), Mango Lassi, Fresh Sugar Cane Juice in the Summer and lots more.

But back to their Pav Bhaji because it really hits the spot.  They add some of the sauce from the vegetable mix into the pan with butter before toasting the rolls and it really imparts some great flavour into the bread.  Topped with fresh onion and cilantro it’s a great combo of textures and flavours and dipping the toasty roll into those spiced stewed veggies is endlessly satisfying.  For $5.99 you really can’t go wrong!

We're visiting a landmark bakery in the Port Union neighbourhood for this week's !

has been serving a mix of baked goods in this community for over 40 years! Breads, buns, donuts, danishes, muffins as well as Filipino specialties like empanadas, asado and tons more.

But today it's all about their Ube Pandasal, a sweet bread roll filled with purple yam (Ube) jam and cheddar cheese. It's a perfect sweet/savoury combination in this pillowy soft roll and I can't get enough of these.

They started as a special but have been so popular they're a regular item now. They go for a dollar each and they go fast so try to get in before lunchtime to pick some up or you'll probably be out of luck.

It's Wing Night for this week's !
toronto at Morningside & Kingston checks all the boxes of a good wing spot for me...

✅ Tons of flavours and sauces to choose from

✅ Great fries and sides available

✅ and of course crispy perfectly fried wings that can hold up to being covered in sauce for a while without getting soggy.

The amount of wing options here is crazy, we're talking over a hundred to choose from and a good majority of them are based off flavours from around the world. Flavours like Scandinavian, Guyanese, Croatian, Tokyo etc... are all intriguing.

Their menu doesn't give you much info on what you're getting from these flavours so you just have to "wing it"...maybe that's where their name comes from.

Alternatively I'm sure you can call and ask for some more info but I have fun just picking some sauces and seeing what I get. I haven't been disappointed yet. Spicy Garpar, Guyanese and Texas BBQ have been some of my favourites so far.

As good as their wings are their House Fries might be the best thing on the menu, which is why it's the main picture for this post. Fries piled with chicken, garlic sauce, ranch, red onion, cheese, roasted garlic and some real fiery green chillies. There are so many toppings you've really got to dig to get to the fries.

Rumour has it the chicken used on the fries is cooked on a shawarma spit left behind by the previous tenants of this location Golden Laffa (later changed to Shawarma Ju**ie), an amazing Iraqi shawarma spot that used beautiful made to order Laffa bread. Maybe .toronto can confirm if this is true or just Scarborough urban legend!

All my Scarborough Wing connoisseurs need to just Wing It and check this spot out of you haven't yet!
