Adventures in Mind Adventures in Mind is an educational travel program for adults of all ages.

Adventures in Mind is VIU's educational travel program for all members of the community. Add something special to your holiday by joining knowledgeable VIU professors to explore the history and culture of fascinating places. Adventures in Mind will appeal to life-long learners who are inquisitive, open-minded and looking beyond the usual tourist experience. Under expert guidance, groups of 10-15 e

ncounter the selected destination through tours, lectures and seminar discussions, and with ample free time for independent activity. Participants are encouraged to share their background knowledge and developing understanding with others, so that all benefit in their learning. Typical Adventures run for one to three weeks; many emphasise staying in a single place, to minimise time lost to travel; university credit is sometimes an option; a level of physical and mental fitness is highly advisable; curiosity and community spirit are essential!

Exciting new find on Crete … just in time for our Adventure there in April!

🟦Recent archaeological findings on Crete, specifically atop Papoura Hill, have revealed a remarkable labyrinthine structure dating back to 2000-1700 BC, just prior to the peak of the Minoan civilization’s early Palaeopalatial period. This discovery occurred during a routine radar installation related to a new airport project. The structure comprises eight concentric stone rings that lead to a central circular building, which boasts an impressive diameter of 157 feet and covers approximately 19,375 square feet.
Within this labyrinth, four primary zones have been identified; Zones A and B, in particular, contain abundant animal bones, which indicate significant human activity in these areas. This discovery represents a groundbreaking addition to the archaeological record of Crete, being the first of its kind on the island. It not only offers valuable insights into the architectural practices of the Bronze Age but also suggests potential cultural connections across the ancient Mediterranean.
In light of its importance, efforts are currently underway to further explore and protect this extraordinary archaeological site, ensuring its preservation for future generations to study and appreciate.

Thanks to all those who attended our online information session yesterday about our France 2025 Adventure. Four of the initial nine places are now taken, so - subject to the availability of accommodation, which is still TBD - we have decided to extend the number of places to eleven.
