300 stairs stand between you and one of the best beaches in Nanaimo.

Tucked away at the end of Blueback Road, this hidden gem rewards you with clear water, soft sand at low tide, and coastal mountain views that go on forever.

A million questions before 9am.

What is that. Why does it do that. Can I help. Can I hold it. What is this one called.
He does not miss a thing.

He is 3. Everything is his favourite colour depending on the day. Today the red sleeping mat takes the top spot.

I could not ask for a better helper.

They built the Apache Mesa in 1977 and called it the perfect family trailer.

Just over 16 feet of living space. Two double beds. A dinette that converts to sleep six.
For a lot of families it measured up perfectly.

47 years later we found one on Vancouver Island and brought it back.
Same bones. New life.

Most people have never heard of a 1977 Apache Mesa.

It was one of the last hard wall pop up trailers ever made before the style almost disappeared completely.

Two beds. A dinette. Hard walls that actually keep the weather out.

Built when camping meant something different.
We restored one and now it spends its summers on the coast of Vancouver Island.

4 weeks ago I bought a 1977 Apache from a local off his farm.

New floors. Fresh paint inside and out. Polished windows. New tires. New power system. New upholstery.

The map table stayed. Some things are perfect as they are.

Tonight we’re at Rathtrevor and it finally feels complete.

This is what Vancouver Island camping should feel like.

Three weeks into this trailer build.

I’ve been “90 percent done” for the last five days. Just waiting on parts so I can finish it and get it out for its first night.

Once it’s done I’ll do an open house video and show the full setup. It’s basically an Airbnb on wheels.

It already has a month long booking this summer, but I’ll have more dates up when it’s live.
