🧺 Sunday plans? Stop by the Hazelton Farmers Market! 🌻

The Hazelton Farmers Market happens on site at our Visitor Centre every Sunday from 10 AM to 2 PM, bringing local vendors, fresh produce, handmade goods, and more to the community.

And there’s still plenty of time to check it out! The market will continue every Sunday until the third Sunday of October.

Come by, support local, and see what our community has to offer. 💛

Thank you for another amazing summer season! ☀️

As we slow down for September, our hours will be changing to Wednesdays to Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm, starting September 2nd.

To make the transition, we will be closed Monday, August 31st and Tuesday, September 1st.

Be sure to stop by to learn more about our community, browse our gift shop, and explore our upstairs Community Exhibit!

Just a reminder that the Visitor Centre will continue to be open 5 days a week through to Christmas, with hours adjusting throughout the fall. Be sure to check back for updates! 🌲

🔥 Fire Restrictions Coming into Effect

New fire restrictions will take effect across the Northwest Fire Centre at 12 p.m. (noon) on Saturday, August 22, 2026.

Category 2 open burning will be prohibited, while Category 3 burning remains prohibited. Additional restrictions will also apply to activities including burn barrels, fireworks, air curtain burners and controlled air incinerators.

⛺ Category 1 campfires up to 0.5 m x 0.5 m and cooking stoves using gas, propane or briquettes are still permitted.

These restrictions are expected to remain in place until October 2, 2026, or until rescinded.

Please stay informed and make sure you’re following current fire restrictions.

Where the Rivers Meet 🌫

Known as the “River of Mists,” the Skeena River has shaped life in the Hazeltons for generations. At Ksan Point near the Village of Hazelton, it meets the Bulkley River, creating a meeting place where waterways, communities and history come together.

For the Gitxsan and neighbouring First Nations, these rivers have long been important routes for travel, trade and connection. The Skeena’s salmon runs have also sustained people and ecosystems throughout the region for generations.

Centuries later, the Skeena became an important transportation route for sternwheelers, carrying people, goods and supplies into the Northwest during the pioneer era and helping connect the Hazeltons with communities farther downriver.

Today, Ksan Point offers a chance to take in the beauty of this meeting of two great rivers and reflect on the many ways they have shaped life in the Hazeltons, from salmon and traditional trade routes to the sternwheelers that once travelled the Skeena.

RDKS is approaching the end of it's five-month Kitwanga pilot program for the adjusted operating hours. They would now like to gather feedback from residents and facility users on their experience with the new hours.

The feedback received will help determine whether to keep the new operating hours or return to the previous operating hours.
