Well well WELL! TWO different snake species under the same rotten board... one of which tricks its potential predators into thinking it is the venomous eastern massasauga rattlesnake- this happens because the milk snake shares an overlapping range with the rattlesnake, and this "rattling tail" mimicry is called Batesian mimicry! While guiding a tour in the mighty Niagara Gorge today, I told my guests, "I'll be floating by you later today while you're staying in downtown Niagara on the Lake"- they wondered how, as the looked at the dangerous rapids of the Gorge... well, once the Niagara River empties out into its lower reaches, the waters are calm and ripe for a birthday party float for the birthday lad himself, !!! What an area to live in!!!

From my 2nd tour today! Thank you Tripshepherd for bringing these distant and local hikers to me- and into the depths of the mighty Niagara Gorge! I absolutely love seeing people take in this world-class hike fore the first time. We had plenty of epic wildlife and scenery encounters down in what is Canada's most biodiverse location!

🚨Insane cute factor alert!!!🚨🦌 my girlfriend , her niece and nephew and I had a magical up-close encounter with a faun sheltering in the cool mud- remarkably close to the trail at ! Why do fauns have white spots!? Well, if you look around the woods at this time of year, the landscape is akin to “freckles” of light on the plants, allowing the relatively vulnerable youngster to blend in! I worked at Heartland Forest for five years of my life in my early twenties. I don’t run tours here, but I HIGHLY recommend you check this place out, and soak in all they do for the environment and people with disabilities! The trails are all wheelchair accessible and access INCREDIBLY significant ecosystems!

Swipe 🐢to see how TINY the two of these little snapping turtles crossing the road were! On the last slide, you’ll see an adult, and I have yet to meet anyone who can take a selfie while picking up one of those 😂 that’s three turtles assisted across the SAME road in the last couple of weeks in .on.the.lake !
Every June…
-keep an extra keen eye out on turtles crossing the road
-only handle the turtles if you are comfortable doing so. If not, assist them across the road in the direction they appear to be heading with a gentle shoe to the backside. Little ones can’t hurt you!
-be traffic aware, and tell others to CARE!
