Island hopping… the local way!

The Aremiti ferry is an important connection between Tahiti and Moorea, carrying both passengers and vehicles between the two islands.

For visitors, the ferry ride can be part of the adventure - watching Tahiti fade into the distance as Moorea comes into view. But for many local residents, it’s simply part of everyday life. People commute between the islands for work, appointments, shopping and visits with family and friends.

It’s a great reminder that while we may come to The Islands of Tahiti for a vacation, these beautiful islands are also home to vibrant communities going about their daily lives.

And we have to admit… there aren’t too many commutes with views quite like these!

A new way to explore The Islands of Tahiti is coming in 2027.

Starting in 2027, Aranui Cruises’ new ship, Aranoa, will offer new cruise itineraries through the Austral Islands, opening up another exciting way to experience a lesser-visited part of French Polynesia.

Don’t get us wrong, we LOVE Bora Bora. But The Islands of Tahiti are wonderfully diverse, and one of our favourite parts of planning a trip is helping travellers discover which islands are the right fit for them.
