Our hearts are with our neighbours in Summerland and communities throughout British Columbia currently facing the impacts of wildfire.
On Saturday, August 8, the Province of British Columbia declared a Provincial State of Emergency as wildfire activity continues to affect communities and prompt evacuation alerts and orders. We extend our sincere thanks to the firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel and volunteers working around the clock to protect people and communities.
For those currently travelling or planning a visit to Oliver and the South Okanagan, we encourage you to make informed decisions based on current, local information.
A Provincial State of Emergency does not mean that all communities are experiencing the same conditions, and there are currently no province-wide travel restrictions in place. The Okanagan covers a significant geographic area, and conditions can differ considerably between destinations.
Before travelling, check EmergencyInfoBC and the BC Wildfire Service for current wildfire and evacuation information, and DriveBC for the latest road conditions. We also recommend connecting directly with your accommodation and the local businesses included in your plans for destination-specific updates.
Most importantly, please respect all evacuation orders, alerts and instructions from local authorities, and avoid non-essential travel into areas directly affected by emergency response.
