When you hear the name Lonnie Johnson, you might think of the Super Soaker, one of the most iconic toys of all time. But did you know this brilliant inventor is also revolutionizing the future of green energy?

A former NASA engineer and a true innovator, Johnson is now working on the Johnson Thermo-Electrochemical Converter (JTEC) — a groundbreaking technology that converts heat into electricity without moving parts. This could change how we harness renewable energy, making power generation cleaner and more efficient.

Johnson’s journey embodies what it means to be ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) — a relentless pursuit of engineering excellence, innovation, and problem-solving. His work spans aerospace, energy, and consumer technology, proving that engineering can be both fun and world-changing.

This Black History Month, we celebrate Lonnie Johnson—a trailblazer, inventor, and energy visionary whose impact goes far beyond the water fights of our childhoods. His legacy continues to inspire future engineers to dream big and innovate boldly!
