On Saturday, August 8, a State of Provincial Emergency was declared in British Columbia in response to wildfire activity and evacuations in parts of the province. Our thoughts are very much with the residents, businesses and communities affected, and with the many firefighters, first responders and emergency personnel working to keep people safe.

We know news like this can also leave visitors with questions about upcoming travel plans, so we’ve gathered a few things that are helpful to know.

There are currently no province wide travel restrictions in place. Visitors are asked to avoid non essential travel to areas affected by evacuation orders and to continue checking conditions for the specific communities and routes they plan to visit.

If you have plans in the region, connect directly with the businesses you’ll be visiting, stay flexible, and check official sources including EmergencyInfoBC, BC Wildfire Service and DriveBC before and during your trip.

The Thompson Okanagan is a large region, and conditions can vary significantly from one community to another. The best thing we can all do right now is stay informed, follow the direction of local authorities and leave space for those who need it most.

Please take care of yourselves and one another. ❤️
