Another photo from yesterday evening's fireworks. This was shot with my Nikon 850, Nikkor 24-70 2.8 lens. Fireworks are much brighter than you expect; the photo was shot at ISO 400, 56 mm, f/14 and 4 seconds. More to come!

I attended my first Casino du Lac Leamy fireworks of the season yesterday. It is one of my favourite locations, with the National Gallery and Maman at the foreground. I decided to experiment with the Samyang 12 mm fisheye lens, to see how it would work. Note that it is a diagonal fisheye; by selecting the lens in Lightroom in the Lens Correction menu, and straightening a bit, this is what you get after cropping. I switched back to my trusty 24-70 lens for the rest of the show, to get closer to the action.

Reed Hoffmann and I will return to the Canadian province of Newfoundland from June 8 to June 17 for another photo workshop. We held the same trip in June 2025 and it was highly successful. Newfoundland has more than 29,000 kilometres of coastline, where it's not hard to spot plenty of whales, seabirds, and icebergs. There are 22 species of whales alone, including the world's largest migrating population of humpbacks. Flying high above are, give or take, 35 million seabirds, which is why Newfoundland and Labrador is aptly named the seabird capital of North America. And if iceberg watching is something on your list, Iceberg Alley is the best place on the continent to see these 10,000-year-old frosty giants. Reservations are now open for this trip; send me a message if you would like to book a seat for the trip.
