🚨 Wildfire Smoke Advisory 🚨

Smoke from wildfires is affecting air quality across our region. Conditions may continue for the next 24–48 hours, with poor air quality and reduced visibility expected.

Residents—especially those with health conditions, young children, or seniors—are encouraged to limit outdoor activity and take steps to reduce smoke exposure.

Here are some other tips to stay safe:
🏃 Limit outdoor activity if breathing feels difficult
💧 Stay cool and hydrated
🏠 Use HEPA or DIY box fan air cleaners indoors
🚪 Keep windows and doors closed
😷 Consider wearing a mask outdoors
❤️‍Check on vulnerable family, friends and neighbours

Due to the amount of wildfire smoke covering the Parksville Qualicum Beach area, we will be open with reduced amenities today, August 14th.

For the health and safety of our volunteers, we will not be opening our Gift Shop, Camellia Tea Room, Plant Sales Nursery, or offering shuttle cart or public tour services. The cost of admission will be dropped for anyone still wanting to visit us today between 11:00am-4:30pm.

Thank you to all the firefighters working tirelessly to save our forests and communities.

You may be at higher risk if you are:

- 65 or older
- Pregnant
- A young child
- Living with heart or lung conditions (like COPD) or diabetes
- Working outdoors

If you have coughing, shortness of breath, or chest discomfort, slow down and get medical advice by calling 8-1-1.
