Artist Feature: Kate Mckinley 🧡✨

Kate was raised in Saskatchewan and moved to Port Alberni in 2019 after retiring, she has been potting for 20+ years and has a diverse educational background!!

She works with mid - fire stoneware to produce mostly functional ware but also works with alternative firings to produce decorative pieces

Kate is a retired Juried Member of the Saskatchewan Craft Council and was also a featured Pottery Artist in Travel Regina, a Saskatchewan Magazine!

Kate has amazing pieces in our gift shop! Come check out her Pottery at the Port Alberni Visitor Centre from 9-4 Monday to Friday! ✨

Artist Feature: Fred Lavigne 💛

Fred has been living on Vancouver Islands west coast and Port Alberni for the last 20 years! He loves the outdoors and all the wild life that goes with it! 🐻🌲

Fred even worked with exotic animals from volunteering as zoos in Canada aswell as working at sea as a marine observer

Now in his retirement, Fred carves these beautiful hiking sticks and they are for sale here at the Visitor Centre Gift Shop! Most sticks have a natural theme of animal tracks and various plants/animals Fred has been lucky enough to view!

Christine was born and raised in Port Alberni and began to explore her artistic abilities by the age of 4!!

Christine enjoys making people happy through her art. She is motivated to do her artwork in front of her two children to show them that when you enjoy and are passionate about what you do, you will continue with what you enjoy! 🤍

Artist Feature: Sandi Offerein

Sandi is a local artist originally from Australia who has called the West Coast home for many years.

Sandi draws much of her inspiration from the surrounding wilderness of the West Coast, which is reflected throughout her work.

Her pieces range in price from $5 to $95, with most being original works.

Thank you Sandi for trusting the Alberni Visitor Centre to showcase and sell your artwork!

The cruise ship 🛳️ (or super yacht, as we learned onboard!) has sadly left the port last night.

While we’re sad to see them go, our staff had the exciting opportunity to work onboard this past weekend!

Visitor Centre staff and volunteers helped ensure our seafaring friends had a memorable experience. From recommending our favourite walks and food stops to booking last-minute fishing trips, we were there to help.

It was incredibly exciting to welcome a large passenger vessel to our port after so many years and to introduce Port Alberni to visitors who may never have heard of our little town before.

Many passengers stopped by on their second day to tell our staff how much they enjoyed their time in Port Alberni, especially their wonderful dinners at Little Bavaria Restaurant and The Station Taphouse

We hope our little town made a great first impression and that these wonderful guests will return in the future, helping pave the way for more passenger vessels to visit our harbour.

Thank you, The World Residences at Sea for being the first large scale passenger vessel to visit Port Alberni since 2019!
