⚠ Travel advisory regarding the Mount Underwood (China Creek) wildfire.

Due to the wildfire activity, the following travel advisories are in effect:

Bamfield Road is closed. There is currently no access to Bamfield from Port Alberni.

Travel north of Youbou is restricted to essential traffic only.

For the most current information, please consult official sources directly. The situation can change rapidly.

For wildfire status and interactive maps: Visit the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) website or use the BC Wildfire mobile app.

For local evacuation alerts or orders: Check the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) website.

MOUNT UNDERWOOD WILDFIRE UPDATE #2 – August 12, 2025 at 8:40 a.m.

BC Wildfire Service has provided a status update on the Mount Underwood Wildfire, near China Creek Marina, south of Port Alberni.

The fire is currently listed at 630 hectares in size and classified as Out of Control. BC Wildfire is actively engaged and has deployed resources, with three unit crews mobilized and more on the way.
Please avoid the area.

The Emergency Operations Centre is continuing to monitor the situation. We will provide further updates as they become available.

A 24-hour reception centre was set up last night at the Alberni Athletic Hall and campers from the China Creek Campground were invited to camp overnight at the Fall Fair grounds.
There are no evacuation alerts or orders at this time.

The Bamfield Road is closed to Port Alberni. People are encouraged to take the Cowichan route.

The power is out in the Bamfield and Anacla areas, and it is expected that the outage will last at least 72 hours. Visitors to the area should take this outage into consideration and residents should prepare for an extended power outage. Please refer to the www.bchydro.com/power-outages for more.

WESLEY RIDGE (CAMERON LAKE) WILDFIRE UPDATE #7: August 3, 11:00 am

The Wesley Ridge wildfire is now estimated at 389 hectares in size.

At this time, we can confirm that Highway 4 remains open, and no impacts are expected. We will continue to monitor conditions closely and share updates if anything changes.

Please remember that emergencies can evolve quickly. Drivers should be prepared for unexpected delays and carry an emergency vehicle kit, including:

✅ Food and water
✅ Phone charger and battery bank
✅ Personal medications
✅ First aid kit
✅ Flashlight and extra batteries
✅ Extra clothing and footwear
✅ Blankets

If you’re driving through the area, please use caution. Firefighting crews and aircraft are working nearby — stay focused and avoid distractions.

We are aware of the Wensley Ridge wildfire near Cameron Lake. This is on the opposite side of the lake to the highway and is not affecting travel. Please stay up to date via Drive BC and the BC Wildfire Service.
