Santa was recently here conducting top secret R&D to improve his sleigh’s glide ratio, while Rudolph was testing new anti-collision flashers. All systems go, and we wish them good luck and a fast final glide back to the North Pole after tonight’s mission! Merry Christmas! May the new year bring booming thermals and long cross-country flights to all.

Earlier this year we traveled to Wasserkuppe, the "cradle" of modern gliding, took a flight over this historic site, and then visited the Alexander Schleicher factory to inspect our new-to-us ASK-21 Mi — a self-launching glider that will be joining the Vancouver Island Soaring Centre fleet next season!

In September we had the pleasure of hosting the cast and crew of a Spanish TV show - - and taking some of the cast up for some fun flights over Vancouver Island. Some good laughs and maybe a few Spanish swear words were said! The episode airs soon on …stay tuned.

As the soaring season comes to a close in Port Alberni, we take to the skies one last time. A quiet, beautiful farewell to summer, and a perfect reminder of why we fly.

With winter weather approaching, it was likely the final day of sailplane soaring for the season in the Alberni Valley on Vancouver Island, on October 17th, 2025.

We love bikes just as much as we love gliders! 🚵🦅 There might be a special prize up for grabs at this weekend’s The Jumping Slug Community Cyclery Cross on the Rock race in Port Alberni 😉

Cross on the rock is in Port THIS SUNDAY!!!
We are hosting the event and encourage everyone that likes bikes (all of you) to race/attend. Alberni Fall fair grounds will be filled with live DJ's, food trucks, action packed racing and MUD. First race begins at 10:45 and racing continues untill 4ish for spectating.

While we are prepping for the race the crew will be busy preparing the course so no Saturday MTB ride today.
