Rolf Hicker Photography I'm a 35+ year full time pro travel, nature and wildlife photographer, published in ads, magazines, books, calendars etc. around the globe. Happy photographing

I'm very passionate about photography and I hope I can brighten up your day with my pictures. I have been traveling around the globe for 35+ years as a pro travel, nature and wildlife photographer. At this stage I pull back from traveling to have time to raise my kids. I'm still in photography and offer photography workshops and photo tours in combination with my "The Artists Point B&B" around Northern Vancouver Island. http://www.vancouverislandtours.info

One of my deepest wildlife experiences today — and I did not even get a picture.

And honestly, I couldn’t care less.

Sometimes it is not about the photograph. It is not about the perfect angle, the sharp image, or the social media moment. Sometimes it is simply about being there, listening, feeling, and understanding how lucky we are to witness something truly wild.

Today was one of those moments.

The video is not much to look at — just part of my sweater while I was holding my iPhone out of the boat window. But the sound… those beautiful coastal sea wolf calls… that is what this moment was about.

Sharing this experience with guests and friends on my tour made it even more special.

And no — I do not offer wolf tours. These encounters are rare, unpredictable, and never something I go looking for or promise. They are gifts from the wild.

🌊🐾 Wow, can’t believe it!

Tomorrow marks my last tour of the 2024 season, and I’m heading back to the Broughton Archipelago and Knight Inlet one last time!
The Traditional Territory of the Kwakwaka'wakw People and the Da’Naxda’xw Awaetlala First Nation in British Columbia, Canada🥰

As we approach autumn, the weather can be unpredictable, but it looks like we’re in for a treat: the rain is set to clear, and the winds should calm down.

The boat is all set—packed, fueled, and checked for oil. We got fresh drinking water from our own well and are ready to go on the Ambient Light.

Next up: prepping fresh food for lunch and getting the coffee and tea cups ready for an early morning start.

We will be in the truck early tomorrow and drive straight down to Alder Bay RV Park & Marina to launch the boat.

And then it’s all up to the nature and wildlife gods. l
Luckily, I usually have a good relationship with them! 🌲✨

Knight Inlet in British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places I've ever experienced. Feeling blessed to spend most of my summer days here! 🌲✨

Here's a stunning drone panorama of Glacier Bay in late spring, a place I don't get to visit often, but it blows me away every time. 📸💚

Knight Inlet is within the traditional territory of the Da’Naxda’xw Awaetlala First Nation in British Columbia, Canada.
