Today we're sharing a photo of Henderson Elementary from when it opened in 1957, replacing the old Henderson school that was 45 years old. The new school cost $206,900.

Looking to spend some time on Texada Island? While you’re there, head up to the Mount Grant Loop Trail! This loop offers fantastic views of northern Texada, Stillwater, and Saltery Bay in the qathet Region, as well as parts of Sechelt on the Sunshine Coast.
On the day we went, it was cloudy over Sechelt, but we could still see all the beautiful bays and coves along the shoreline below. 🌊
The trail starts out as a beautiful, wide, mossy-green path lined with daisies before becoming narrower and rockier as you climb. Near the top, you’ll reach the Matterhorn Viewpoint, where you can take in the stunning views before continuing along the ridge. From there, the trail winds back and forth across the top of the mountain before leading you down the other side.
The trail gets quite steep as you near the top on the way up (we went clockwise), and there are a few short, steeper sections on the way down that require some minor scrambling.
The loop took us about an hour and a half at a leisurely pace and was approximately 5 km long and the viewpoint was about 2km in.
The trail was also very well marked, with both signs and trail tape, making it easy to follow along the way. 🥾🌲
Right before you reach the trail head there is a fork in the road. The trail head is up the left side of the fork, but there wasn’t a great pull out to park in, so we parked in the pull out on the right side of the fork and walked to the trail head from there.

Looking for a fun and family-friendly adventure on Texada Island? Gnome Homes is a short, easy trail that’s perfect for exploring with little ones!
You’ll find Gnome Homes at the beginning of the Eagle Cove Loop Trail, where the forest is filled with colourful, creatively decorated little gnome homes tucked along the trail. At roughly 1 km long, this is a great option for families looking for a shorter walk that still offers plenty to discover along the way. ✨🍄
The trail is well signed and easy to follow, with parking available along the side of Blubber Bay Road, approximately 6 km from the Texada Island Ferry Terminal.
Keep your eyes open as you wander through the forest, you never know where the next little gnome home might be hiding! 🧙‍♀️🏡🌲
