Prescott’s Soapbox Derby had its own hometown stars.

Starting in the 1940s, the races became a Labour Day weekend tradition, drawing young competitors and local crowds. The derby faded in the 1960s, then made brief comebacks in the 1990s and 2000s. Now, the Museum’s new window display brings those racers and their stories back into view.

Stop by the Museum to see the people and stories behind Prescott’s Soapbox Derby. On display now through November 2026.

The lantern atop Prescott’s Rotary Lighthouse has a story of its own. It once stood on the roof of the Dominion Lighthouse Depot, where it helped train lighthouse keepers.

The Depot opened in Prescott in 1903, making navigational aids for the St. Lawrence and beyond. During the Second World War, its workshops also produced materials for the war effort. In 1962, the site became home to the Canadian Coast Guard in Prescott. The old Depot is gone, but its lantern remains on our waterfront, and the Coast Guard still works on King Street West.

Visit the Prescott Museum and Visitor Centre’s new interactive exhibit and follow that story from the Depot to the Coast Guard base that’s still part of Prescott today. On display now through November 2026.
