Smoky conditions may be present on the Yukon River near Fort Selkirk area from a fire burning near Coffee Creek.

The Coffee Creek fire (BC-002) is a 378-hectare wilderness fire that has been active since early this past long weekend. There has been smoke from the fire over the Yukon River, which is 15 kilometres to the north, and from Pelly Crossing, which is 130 kilometres to the east.

Remember: we do not close rivers to public use when wildfires are active. You must decide whether it's safe to start or continue your trip.

Wildland Fire Management has been in contact with mining camps in the area and have crews available should we need to respond.

We have been informed by a helpful canoeist that there is a printing error in our Big Salmon book. The map page (page 38) right before the Carmacks page is a duplicate of the following page (39) instead of being the correct map. If you have purchased one of our Big Salmon books, please check and see if this is the case in your copy (because of the way they are printed, half of them are correct and half of them are missing that page). If you have one of the faulty books, please let me know by email - [email protected] - and I will email you the corrected page.

On June 11, 2026, Whitehorse RCMP received a report of a capsized canoe on the Teslin River. Camping gear, an inReach device and a lifejacket were found with the canoe. Searches in the area are ongoing.

Yukon RCMP are asking anyone who is out on the water, land or travelling the highway to be on the lookout for Dominic Bandorski.
