TRIP REPORT: August 24-28 Desolation Sound Expedition w/ Christina + Kevin 🐋✨️

Desolation Sound was in fine form on this trip. We had hot sunny days of glass paddling and swimming to cool down. Cloudy days and even a bit of rain didn’t dampen our spirits.

Strangers became good friends as we joked and drank tea. We even had some orcas pass by on our last day.

This trip will definitely leave some lasting memories for all of us

TRIP REPORT: August 26-29 Johnstone Strait Glamping w/ Jared, Sara, Sydney, and Islay 🐋✨️

Dolphins and rainbows sum up the trip.

The surprise humpback took our breath away so much that we forgot about the rain.

Skiers became kayakers.

As the sun was setting the full moon rose. And the bioluminescence gifted us with their sparkling show!

The guides were lucky enough to leave with full hearts and bracelets to match.

TRIP REPORT: August 23-26 Johnstone Strait Glamping w/ Carla, Jared, Béatrice, and Cherie 🐋✨️

We started our trip with pacific white sided dolphins in Boat Bay. That was simply the beginning. This was a core memory for many.

Our spirit animal this trip was the Dall's porpoise. We seemed to have spotted some every day. During the first boat ride, on the way to the trailhead, and on our last day.

We finished the trip all huddled under the kitchen watching a beautiful lighting storm hit the Johnstone Strait. We witnessed nature's beauty and strength, read each other's tarot, and laughed all evening.

Truly a beautiful group of strangers and an amazing trip. Thank you!

TRIP REPORT: August 10-15 Whales & Wilderness Expedition w/ Bev + Wade 🐋✨️

Watching the fog roll in. Spying birds through binoculars. Marvelling at nature in all her glory.

Thanks to our fellow paddlers for the peaks and valleys shared together whilst we explored the Broughtons.

We will hold on to hope for sponsorship by Hawkins cheeses for our reunion trip.

TRIP REPORT: August 20-23 Johnstone Strait Glamping w/ Sierra, Ali, Carla, and Islay 🐋✨️

Another great JSG for the books! Four days full of wild encounters, great food, and endless chats!

We were able to make it up to CETUS this week and hike up to view the bight from the lookout as well as learn about all the work they do helping to conserve this beautiful area.

All wrapped up with a meditative foggy morning paddle.

Have you ever wondered how humpback whales get their names? 🐋

Meet Lucky! Also known as BCZ0419.

Lucky is a local female humpback who was first sighted in our waters in 2008 and is known to migrate to Mexico in the winter time.

She is a survivor of a killer whale attack, thought to have occurred as a juvenile due to the rake marks having spread as she's grown — these easily spotted marks are how she got her nickname.

Beyond nicknames, humpback whales in BC also receive an alpha numeric ID code for research purposes as well.

🌊 BC = British Columbia
→ The region where the whale is observed.

⚪️ X, Y or Z = How much of the tail fluke is white?
→ 0-20% white = X
→ 20-80% white = Y
→ 80% or more white = Z

🔢 4-Digit Number = The order in which the whales have been catalogued.⁠
→ Example: Lucky is the 419th whale recorded who has over 80% white on her fluke.⁠

TRIP REPORT: August 18-23 Nuchatlitz Expedition w/ Bev + Morgan 🐋✨️

Sometimes the stars align- you get the best weather, the calmest seas and the most capable crew, and there's no where you can't go! And this trip was exactly that.

We meandered through the calm islets and lagoon of the Nuchatlitz group, crossed over to Benson and went for the most refreshing waterfall dip and even explored the sea stacks and sea caves around Catala Island.

We had the gift of seeing intertidal creatures, rafts of sea otters and even a few whales made an appearance! We had lunch time beach naps, enjoyed sunrises and sunsets and blissed out in one another's company.

A truly memorable trip

TRIP REPORT: August 16-20 Whales & Wilderness Glamping w/ Marnie, Kayla, Aleta, Kendall, and Taylor 🐋✨️

We woke up with humpbacks surfacing in the foggy mornings that magically turned into sunny skies and orcas going by.

We dipped our paddles in the intertidal waters and discovered starfish, crabs, urchins, sea cucumbers, jellyfish, and more. As we paddled along the shores, we felt the raw spirit of nature and the islands.

When we returned to camp each day, we were welcomed with aromatic scents from the Blackfish Bistro. We enjoyed amazing meals, each other’s company, and some good laughs, along with rest and relaxation.

Oh and don’t forget the bear gracefully climbing on the rocks!
