Canadian airline service to Cuba is being disrupted due to a jet fuel shortage on the island, not a travel ban. Cuba has advised airlines it may be unable to refuel aircraft from approximately Feb 10 through at least Mar 11, 2026, impacting operations at major airports including Havana. As a result, Air Canada has paused passenger service to Cuba, while WestJet, Air Transat and Sunwing continue to operate for now but may face schedule changes or reduced service. The Canadian government also updated its travel advisory on Feb 5, urging travellers to exercise a high degree of caution due to fuel, power and supply shortages. Clients affected by cancellations are generally being offered free date changes, rebooking to alternate destinations, future travel credits, or refunds depending on supplier policy. Please monitor Cuba bookings closely and advise clients to remain flexible.
This is a fuel supply issue, not a travel ban, and the situation remains fluid. We’ll continue to share updates as more information becomes available.
