2. To oversee maintenance of the Trail

3. To promote the Trail

4. To create economic benefit from the Trail for our communities

5. In time, to expand to other trails in the West Boundary

Slow down, observe nature, hear the sounds of nature. Smell nature and find a shaded breeze on a warm day. Stay hydrated! Rain might be coming in heavy. Check to make sure so you are prepared for changing conditions.

During the summer of 2024, Bailey Whitnack went on a big adventure with her dog Stoney and her bike on the Trans-Canada Trail. She reflects on a season full of hiccups and lessons, sometimes learned the hard way.

Why the Trans Canada Trail is important in Boundary Country BC

Here’s something worth thinking about:
A global study (36,000+ people, 75 countries) found that people who feel connected to nature consistently report higher well-being.

Not just “time outside.” Connection.

And that doesn’t usually come from one big hike. It comes from repetition.

The same trail section. The same route. The same place you start to recognize.

That’s what the Trans Canada Trail does best. It puts nature in reach, so connection can actually happen. Not once. But again and again.

We recommend you check out weather and fire conditions before you set out and keep yourself updated as much as you can. In the Regional District of Kootenay Boundary they use the Voyent Alert and sign up for notifications in case of a emergency.

More people are using third-party wildfire apps and websites to follow wildfire activity in B.C. While these tools may offer additional ways to view wildfire information, it’s important to understand they are not operated by the BC Wildfire Service.

Many third-party platforms use publicly available BC Wildfire Service data, but may refresh information at different times, display information differently or combine multiple sources that don’t always align in real time. This can result in information that is delayed, incomplete or inaccurate.

For the most current and verified wildfire information in B.C., use official BC Wildfire Service sources:

📱 BC Wildfire Service mobile app
🌐 www.bcwildfire.ca
📘 BC Wildfire Service social media channels (Facebook and Instagram)
📍 Your local information officers
🚨 Local government emergency alert systems

Third-party apps can be useful supplemental tools, but they should not replace official wildfire information sources during emergencies.

Hotel Midway is a throw back to when hotels had personality.

Perfect to recharge and cycle friendly. Ensure you take the time to take in the Kettle River Museum and ask for a tour of the station house. It is a very well curated historic site.

Imagine, that instead of trains, these are recreational trails for bicycling! Welcome to Hotel Midway, at Mile 0 of the Kettle Valley Rail Trail!
