Southern Roots Salon & Market is a small business located in Scout Lake, Saskatchewan. Owner Ashley Colby, a farmer, rancher and journeyman hair stylist, said that during the pandemic she began gardening and quickly discovered just how challenging and rewarding it could be. โBringing bags of potatoes to a salon felt incredibly silly, but word got out and I could hardly keep upโ
The following year, she expanded again, and customers loved being able to pick up fresh fruit and vegetables while visiting the salon, leaving with fresh local products and looking their best. This unique combination of services sparked an idea: salon services paired with access to fresh, Saskatchewan-grown products.

As Ashleyโs hair styling clientele grew, so did the questions about what other products she had and, if she didnโt grow them herself, whether she knew someone who did. โHearing how much my community trusted our products to feed themselves and their families was incredibly rewarding and inspiring.โ That support ultimately led Ashley to realize the need for a building of her own.
With the help of South Saskatchewan Ready, Ashley was able to purchase the perfect building in the small town of Scout Lake. Having a permanent location has transformed day-to-day operations, allowing Ashley to better accommodate clients and provide greater access to essential salon services.
