πŸ‹ Did You Know?

The humpback whales we see here in the Bay of Fundy can grow up to 16 metres (52 feet) long and weigh as much as 40 tonnes!

Even more incredible? Every humpback whale has a unique pattern on the underside of its tail fluke - kind of like a human fingerprint. Researchers can identify individual whales just by photographs of their tails!

Have you ever snapped a photo of a whale's tail on one of our tours? πŸ“Έ

Days like today are exactly why we love being on the water. β˜€οΈπŸŒŠ

The Bay is calm, the air is fresh, and every tour feels a little different β€” maybe it’s a curious seal on Black Ledge, a surprise whale sighting, or simply the feeling of slowing down and taking it all in for a while. πŸ‹

Sometimes the best part isn’t just what you see… it’s how being out here makes you feel. πŸ’™

Who else would we be celebrating on Mother's Day? Salt is the Queen of Stellwagen. She is a mother of 16 (known) calves, 14 grand calves, and has a great grand calf. Although humpback whales do not live in pods and separate after nursing, Salt has been a doting mother and prominent figure in the Gulf of Maine humpback whale population. It is because of her that we learned about population abundance, residency, migration patterns, gestation, calving rates, maternal dependence of calves, sexual maturity, genetic aging, and even whale culture.

She was recently spotted here in the Gulf of Maine. We don't know how long she'll stay around during feeding season, but we're just happy knowing she's here and doing well.
