🛤️ Signature Experience Feature: Iron Horse Trail – South East Region

The south east region of Alberta’s Iron Horse Trail offers a different way to experience Lakeland. This stretch follows the historic rail line from Heinsburg north through communities like Elk Point and St. Paul, connecting small towns, open landscapes, and quiet stretches of countryside.

Here, the pace feels slower. The trail moves through farmland, forest, and river valleys, with places to stop, explore, and take in the surroundings along the way. It is a route that invites you to spend time, not rush through it.

Whether you are travelling by ATV, bike, or on foot, this section is about the connection between communities. Historic sites, local landmarks, and small town stops make it easy to turn a ride into a full day or weekend experience.

As part of one of Alberta’s longest trail systems, the south east region offers both space and history, making it a strong way to experience Lakeland from a different perspective.
