Fun fact: During gestation, Harbour Seals throw in a twist with delayed implantation. The fertilized egg becomes a blastocyst, hitting pause and free-floating in the uterus for one-and-a-half to three months!!
Embryonic diapause, as observed in pinnipeds like seals, is a unique reproductive strategy. Not exclusive to seals, it's been observed in over 130 mammal and insect species, ensuring gestation and parturition happen under optimal conditions.

The Salt Spring Adventure Co. Ltd. is less about making a living and more about living the dream! We put all our energy into making our tours as fulfilling and rewarding as possible. Whether it's whale watching in our top-of-the-line 12-passenger Zodiac, kayaking through beautiful marine reserves, paddle boarding on a placid lake or harbour, or an epic bike ride around the island, everyone is sure to have a fun and memorable outdoor experience. We also offer canoe, pedal boat, e-bike, and sit-on-top kayak rentals!
