Knox Presbyterian Church in Selkirk is a local architectural and historical gem!

Replacing a 1876 wooden chapel, this neo-gothic structure was designed by Samuel Hooper in 1903 and constructed through funding provided by the Andrew Carnegie Foundation in 1904. The large stained glass windows and much of the interior woodwork are original to the 1904 construction.

Famed Ukrainian-Canadian artist Leo Mol designed the additional, smaller glass windows on display in the Sanctuary in 1964. Leo Mol is very familiar to many Manitobans (Leo Mol Sculpture Garden) but have you ever heard of Samuel Hooper? Hooper was hired to design Knox in 1903 and just 3 months later he was appointed Manitoba's first provincial architect! How cool!

Happy Birthday to Selkirk's iconic mascot, Chuck the Channel Cat! 🎂🎉

Just in time for his 40th Birthday, the City of Selkirk hooked Chuck with a fresh coat of paint to help him shine for another 40 years.

Chuck has been welcoming visitors from his spot outside Smitty’s on Main Street since he was unveiled on May 23, 1986.

The statue was placed to honour the memory of Chuck Norquay, whose passion for fishing the Red River helped put Selkirk on the map as the Catfish Capital of North America! 🐟

Have a photo with Chuck? 📸 Share it with us in the comments.
