Planes,Trains and Automobiles!

That's the order of travel home today to Vancouver Island from Ireland. We are currently transiting through Londow Heathrow and it has reminded me of a few simple travel tips that may be handy if you haven't traveled to a large airport recently. Technology is changing rapidly in some airports, so the key is to be prepared and leave yourself enough time!

1. Don't throw out your boarding pass or train ticket until you are home. You may be traveling to another terminal and you need to be prepared with your documents again, OR if something goes sideways you may need to provide proof of an earlier flight.

2. Security regulations vary widely from airport to airport. Leaving on our first leg today we could have liquids up to 2L. Then on our second leg we had to dump our liquids as per usual. Read the signs, and prepare yourself in line (don't be THAT person that takes forever!)
If you can travel without a belt it's helpful, and don't wear boots if you can avoid it. We sailed through security in our sneakers today (sometimes you may have to take off your shoes) but people wearing boots had to take them off.

3. When you are purchasing/planning your flights, don't choose the flight with the least transfer time. Just because you can buy it that way doesnt mean it makes sense. Today it took a looooong time to travel from one London Heathrow terminal to another. We could have purchased our flights on a tighter schedule but we choose not to have the stress of a potential missed flight.

4. If you can travel with a small backpack (compared to a laptop bag for example) it's easier to travel hands free!

5. Prepare to be flexible, polite, and comfy for your travel. It’s not a fashion show (as my mom used to say to me as a teenager)....it's a flight!

Happy travels!!!!

When we travel we make connections!

Cathedral Quarter is a fantastic maze of cobblestone streets and warehouses that is home to trendy bars, beer gardens, pubs and restaurants. We had the honor of attending a fantastic event at The Dark Horse and Waterman! Fabulous food and entertainment, amazing and friendly staff, and out of this world entertainment. We chatted with other visitors in the streets and learned what celebrations brought them to Cathedral Quarter.

Honestly, I was a caterer for years and this is one of the best events I have ever enjoyed! Thank-you Tourism Ireland!!!

When we travel we make connections!

Okay… I get it now.

Everyone says you *have* to visit Titanic Belfast—and they’re right.

It’s interactive, beautifully done, and tells the story in such a powerful way (not just the ship, but the people, the city, everything behind it).

Definitely one of the highlights of being here in Belfast. To make our trip even more fantastic...our gala dinner with Trevello Travel will be held here on International Travel Agents day!!!

When we travel we make connections!

"Belfast is buzzing!!!"

We arrived in Belfast last night and we were immediately charmed by our taxi driver who told us "Belfast is buzzing!". He explained that there were 2 conventions in town (one is ours with our host agency Trevello Travel) and with the Belfast City Marathon happening there would be plenty of "good craic".😁

Although we only understood about half of what he said he was absolutely lovely and our trip was off to a great start!

Hotel pricing. What do you think you should spend per night in a beautiful hotel in a major destination? 200$? 500$? 1000$?

What do you think you should spend on a cruise per night? And if you cruise already, why not think about an upgrade?

BUT...
Luxury and premium cruise prices can cause a bit of sticker shock! 😳

I get it. Travel is expensive!

But here’s what I have learned:

Compare it to booking a really beautiful hotel.

You’re paying for:
Your room
Every meal
Every drink
Tips
Excursions

And it adds up fast—especially if you’re doing it right.

Now look at premium and luxury cruising…

Most of that is already included. Or, you can tailor your cruise to SUIT you. AND it includes part of your transportation!

So instead of constantly reaching for your wallet or doing mental math on vacation… everything just flows.

No surprise bills.
No “should we or shouldn’t we.”
No keeping track.

When you actually compare the two side by side, the gap isn’t nearly as big as it seems.

It’s just packaged differently.

And the experience?
A whole different level.⚓️

Here are 3 ways to introduce yourself to cruising:

Travelling to Europe already? Try a short 4 or 7 day cruise to hit the major ports - where hotels are already really expensive. You can tuck in at night to a beautiful dinner AND enjoy your floating hotel with entertainment!

Do you live on the West Coast of Canada? Try a Pacific Northwest cruise or an Alaskan Cruise. The BEST way is to find those cruises that are round trip from Vancouver - you won't have the hassle and extra expense of flying! Did you know you can even cruise to Asia and Hawaii from here??

Tired of sitting on a beach at an all inclusive? Try a cruise to Mexico from the Pacific side OR from the Caribbean side!

Please stop by or send us a message so we can find the right cruise for you!

With a little bit of help from technology, I put together this explanation of flights for my clients. It can be very difficult choosing the right fare that suits your needs, but we can help!

✈️ Understanding Flight Options: Class of Service vs. Fare Type

When booking a flight, there are two key decisions that affect your trip:
Class of Service → your comfort onboard
Fare Type → your flexibility and what’s included
________________________________________
🪑 Class of Service (Your Comfort)

This refers to where you sit on the aircraft and the level of comfort and service you receive.

Economy Class:

Standard seating
Most affordable option

Premium Economy:

More legroom and wider seats
Enhanced meals and service

Business Class:

Spacious seating (often lie-flat on long flights)
Priority services and lounge access

First Class (on select routes)
Maximum comfort, privacy, and luxury service
👉 Class = your physical experience on the plane
________________________________________
🎫 Fare Type (Your Flexibility & What’s Included)

Fare type determines the rules, inclusions, and restrictions on your ticket.
💡 The Most Important Differences

1. Flexibility

Can you change your flight?
Are there change fees?
Do you have to pay a fare difference?

2. Refundability

Non-refundable (lowest fares)
Credit if cancelled
Fully refundable (higher fares)
👉 This is your financial protection if plans change

🧳 3. Baggage

Your fare type often determines:
Whether a checked bag is included
If you need to pay extra for luggage
👉 Lower fares often do not include bags
________________________________________
💺 4. Seat Selection
Fare type also affects:
Whether you can choose your seat in advance
If seat selection comes with a fee
Access to preferred or extra legroom seats
👉 Some lower fares assign seats at check-in only
________________________________________
🎟️ Common Fare Types

Basic / Light:

Lowest price
No flexibility
No bags
Limited or no seat selection

Standard:

Some flexibility
May include baggage
Paid seat selection

Flex / Premium:

Changes allowed (often no fee)
Better refund options
Bags included
Seat selection included
👉 Fare type = your flexibility, inclusions, and overall value
________________________________________
🔑 The Simple Way to Think About It
Class is about comfort. Fare type is about flexibility and what’s included.
________________________________________
💡 Why This Matters

Two travellers can:
Sit side-by-side in the same class
But have completely different tickets
One may:
Pay less upfront
But lose most of the value if plans change

Another may:
Pay slightly more
But have flexibility, baggage included, and seat choice

We should say more about the Galapagos Islands with Lindblad Expeditions . And we will. We are in the amazing position of being super busy right now and I need to figure out our Go Pro editing! I cannot even exaggerate the thrill of a sea lion blowing bubbles in my face or floating above the white tipped sharks. The animals aren't shy, but of course we allow them the space they need and the respect they deserve. But they are curious! This red footed B***y has a tiny chick underneath her and she is not worried at all as we walk by and take pictures. 😍
