I dream all winter about the Red-winged Blackbirds coming back to the wetlands. According to Birds of the World by Cornell University there are 20 subspecies of Red-winged Blackbirds. Took this one at the wetlands in Sherwood Park May 1st 2026.

The pelicans return to our local wetland in Sherwood Park is my favourite. I spent three hours on May 1st watching them an photographing them. I will be hosting a beginner birding photography workshop soon. This workshop is designed for beginner photographers and birders who want to learn the basics of aperture , exposure, how to choose the right ISO for the mood and light available , which focus modes are best for birds , how to program your custom buttons for flight shots. You can participate with a DSLR , an ultra zoom point and shoot or whatever camera you have. We will learn and practice bird photography together in a fun , relaxed learning environment that makes it easy for beginners .
