Finnmark Ski and Sail Trip, Norway

Arctic Ski Touring & Sailing Adventure in Northern Norway The dark, restless waters of the Norwegian Sea tested us early on our Finnmark ski and sail expedition. Aboard the SY Jolly—a 14.9m steel-hulled sailboat—we departed Alta, Finnmark for a sheltered anchorage deep in Øksfjord on April 20th...

Sailing from Alta to Tromsø went far beyond the average ski and sail trip—it was an adventure through the dark waters of the Norwegian Sea and the remote fjords of Finnmark and Northern Troms County. Over the course of the week, we encountered only four other ski tourists over the course of our journey.

Sy Jolly and provided safe passage through the 3-4m swells and the frigid waters of the Norwegian Sea. The accommodations were warm, dry and cozy, while the systems were dialled.

We’re already making plans for 2027 and streamlining the itinerary in order to optimize your skiing experience. Drop a line for details, there are only six spaces available.

Slipping?

👉Take off your uphill ski and stomp your uphill foot firmly. This is a quick and dirty way to manage a short and firm section of a skin track or a means of breaking trail through a bit of wind buff or crust. Long sustained sections will necessitate ski crampons, but this technique works well for shorter segments.

Camping deep in the Monashees was the ultimate way to cap off another excellent season of ski guiding in the Columbia Mountains. Majestic glaciers, 1000m descents, expansive terrain and exceptional weather made for an incredible trip. A big thanks to a great group of clients and Svein Tuft for time well spent in the mountains 🙏

⛷️🏂 If this looks like your kind of trip, bookings for our 2027 spring ski mountaineering basecamps are now open. DM for details or check out the link in our bio👆
