The Valahalla Traverse—roughly 67km and 64km depending on the route you take. This variation starts in Bannock Burn and adds approximately 20km and 1400m to the variation listed in Chic Scott’s Summits and Icefields book while travelling through more of the higher peaks in the range.

Andrew McNab and I did it 36hrs a couple of years back. It could be done a lot faster without a doubt; we were pretty causal about the whole affair and set out with loose plans and overnight gear…

Typically, people take 5-7 days to do it. We’re offering it as an option for experienced skiers and splitboarders who are looking for a true wilderness adventure this spring. Early April or early May dates available—we creamed out some prime conditions April 18-19.

October 18th, Slocan, BC—Rope Rescue 101: Learn self rescue techniques in a small group environment. We’ll cover techniques for rescuing a leader, escaping the belay, rope ascension, counter balance and tandem rappels and haul systems. DM for details.

$175/day max 6 students

October 17 Topics:
Rope ascension, escaping the belay, load transfers, raising and lowering systems etc. Intermediate to advanced climbers

October 18 Topics:
Rappelling, anchors, body belays, crevasse rescue fundamentals, haul systems, lowers, load transfers etc.

It’s been a solid year and a half of training, exams and work— going through the professional development / examination process is a challenging, yet rewarding experience. Many thanks to my family, instructors, co-candidates, mentors, friends and clients for making the process an enjoyable one.

I passed two exams this summer and am now an American Mountain Guides Association certified rock, ski and assistant alpine guide, which means I have achieved aspirant mountain guide status. There’s lot’s more learning and training to come in preparation for the final alpine guide exam; but these are two big steps in the right direction for me.

Arctos Guides is now offering a suite of new services including guided rock and alpine climbing, hiking, running trips and courses. Drop a line if you’d like to book a trip or course ⛷️🧗‍♀️🥾
