📢 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: TYHEE LAKE PARK CLOSURE

Due to increased bear activity and public safety concerns, BC Parks has closed the Tyhee Lake Park campground and Aldermere Trail effective September 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

The closure is expected to remain in effect until the end of the season but may be lifted depending on bear activity.

Please note:

• The day-use area and boat launch remain open.
• Visitors must follow bear-aware practices.
• Dogs should not be brought into the day-use area.
• Campers with reservations during the closure will be notified and receive a full refund through Discover Camping.
• Anyone planning to camp at Tyhee Lake should make alternate arrangements.

Report bear sightings or aggressive wildlife to the Conservation Officer Service RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.

🏔️ FEATURE | SUMMER ON Hudson Bay Mountain Resort

Who says the ski hill is only for winter? There’s a whole different kind of mountain vibe happening at Hudson Bay Mountain Resort this summer, and it’s a great example of how our outdoor recreation economy can create activity, employment and local spending year-round.

🚠 Don’t miss out, be sure to “Ride the Sky” this summer! The Skyline Chairlift has been running on weekends, Saturday & Sunday from 12–4 PM, giving locals and visitors an accessible chance to head up the mountain for sightseeing, live music, hiking, disc golf, fresh alpine air and some pretty spectacular Bulkley Valley views.

And make a day of it! Stop at the lodge for a BBQ lunch, check out the Hudson Bay Mountain merch, explore the alpine and enjoy a summer afternoon at one of Smithers’ most iconic recreation assets.

We love seeing infrastructure traditionally associated with our winter economy activated during the summer months. Experiences like this give people another reason to stay longer, explore more and spend locally - supporting jobs, local suppliers, hospitality, accommodations, restaurants and the broader visitor economy.
