Wild mushrooms thrive in the damp, coastal-mountain rainforests around Stewart, creating a hidden wonderland of unique fungi 🍄🤎

📍Stewart sits at the head of the Portland Canal, surrounded by steep mountains and ancient old-growth temperate R A I N F O R E S T S 🌦

🥾Walk the local trails and you will spot colorful species like the iconic red-and-white Fly Agaric (Amanita muscaria), shelf-like bracket fungi on decaying nurse logs, and delicate tiny gilled mushrooms tucked into mossy forest floors 🍄

👀Late summer through late autumn brings peak mushroom season as cooler, wet weather activates the forest floor 🌲

‼️Never eat wild mushrooms unless an expert positively identifies them in person. Many toxic lookalikes grow in the Pacific Northwest 🔍

💚Protect the fragile rainforest floor by staying on trails and leaving hidden mushrooms undisturbed for others to discover 🥰

In honor of National Tree Day, SHOUT OUT to Stewarts very own BIG SPRUCE, a Sitka spruce so large it's listed in BC's Big Tree Registry!!📜🌿With a diameter of almost 3 meters (10 feet) and a height of 68 meters (223 feet), the Big Spruce is as tall as a 20-storey building 😮🌲💚
