Mother’s Day Adventure for the Whole Family!

Celebrate Mother’s Day in the heart of nature with our Wildflower Wonders of the Woodlot Hikes! Join us at 10 am or at 1 pm for a scenic, guided walk through a beautiful, thriving woodlot as we explore the delicate and colorful wildflowers that bloom this time of year. This family-friendly hike is the perfect way to explore the beauty of nature together. You’ll discover colorful wildflowers, learn fun facts about the plants, and enjoy a relaxing walk in the great outdoors.

Led by an experienced local naturalist and educator, Denise Iszczuk from CORE Nature Experiences, you’ll discover the diverse flora that thrives in the woodlot's rich ecosystem. You'll gain a deeper appreciation for these resilient flowers and their role in our environment. Along the way, allow your senses to be immersed and deepen your connection to the natural world.
After the hike, relax and enjoy a refreshing break (lug-a-mug or cup) with some juice, tea, and delicious cookies (kindly provided by the Sawyer Woodlot Preservation Association)—perfect for recharging after your wildflower adventure!

Happy Return of the Tundra Swans!
I was happy to see the out in the wet fields while driving home from New Liskeard.

It's sad to see an end to winter but I love to embrace the changing of the seasons too!

These large pure white birds look like snow balls in the fields and they sound like they are whistling.

They stop in Southwestern Ontario and to rest and refuel. They are truly a as the birds are moving towards their Arctic breeding grounds.

If you are lucky, you may even hear/see them flying south during their fall migration.

Haven't seen them yet? They usually stick around while the snow is still on the ground.

Please post any comments or locations where you have seen these beautiful birds.

Grand Bend is widely known as a stop over for thousands.

Take a drive to Perth Line 44 just west of Hwy 119 and you will see hundreds of Tundra Swans.

For more info on this bird and others check out https://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/search

One track you won't see in the snow until spring is a groundhog. Wiarton Willie saw his shadow and went back into his burrow. Telling us that it will be an early spring!

Until then, let's uncover some stories in the snow.
What is going on here? Use a book reference like "Whose prints? by Kari Allen
or online resource https://www.massaudubon.org/places-to-explore/activities/family-fun/young-explorers-activity-sheets/stories-in-the-snow-activity-page
and some creativity to solve this story.
