🌕🌎 LOOK UP TONIGHT! A LUNAR ECLIPSE IS COMING TO THE LAKE SUPERIOR SKY! ✨

From the North Shore of Ontario to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin and Minnesota, the entire Lake Superior Circle Tour is under the same celestial show tonight! 🌌

On the night of August 27–28, a deep partial lunar eclipse will take place, with about 96% of the Moon passing through Earth’s darkest shadow. 🌎🌕

So what exactly is happening?

A lunar eclipse occurs when Earth moves between the Sun and the Moon, causing Earth’s shadow to fall across the Moon. During tonight’s eclipse, almost the entire full Moon will slip into the darkest part of that shadow, leaving only a small portion brightly illuminated.

And there’s a pretty good chance the eclipsed part will take on a reddish or coppery-orange glow as sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere. 🌕🧡❤️

⏰ WHEN TO WATCH

The eclipse is visible throughout the Lake Superior region, but the clock time depends on which side of the lake you’re on:

🇨🇦 Ontario & Eastern Michigan
🌙 Partial eclipse begins: about 10:34 p.m. EDT
🌕 Maximum: about 12:12 a.m. EDT

🇺🇸 Minnesota, Wisconsin & Western Michigan
🌙 Partial eclipse begins: about 9:34 p.m. CDT
🌕 Maximum: about 11:12 p.m. CDT

The eclipse continues after maximum, so you don’t have to be outside at the exact peak to see it. ✨

👀 TIPS FOR VIEWING

🌌 Find a spot with an open view of the sky and as little artificial light as possible.

☁️ Check the clouds before heading out — clear skies are the key!

🪑 Bring a comfy chair or blanket. It’s going to be a late-night show!

🔭 Binoculars or a telescope can make the changing shadow especially interesting, but you don’t need any special equipment to enjoy a lunar eclipse.

📱 Trying to photograph it? A tripod or another stable surface can help keep your camera steady.

👁️ And unlike a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse is safe to watch with your eyes.

So whether you’re watching from a beach in Wisconsin, a lookout in Michigan, the Minnesota North Shore or somewhere along Ontario’s Lake Superior shoreline…

look up. 🌕✨

Because around Lake Superior, some of the best attractions are the ones that happen naturally. 😉
